How Do I Run a WIFI Test on an IQ5 Hub Security System?

To run a WIFI test on the IQ5 Hub, make sure your system is disarmed, then swipe down from the top of the screen, touch Settings, then touch Advanced Settings, and enter the Master code (1234 by default) or the Installer code (1111 by default). Select System Tests and then touch WIFI Test.

Before You Begin

Before running the WIFI test on your IQ5 Hub, available in AT&T LTE and Verizon LTE versions, confirm that the panel is already connected to your WIFI network. The WIFI test checks the connection between your IQ5 Hub and your router. If your panel is not yet connected to WIFI, you will need to connect it first through the WIFI settings menu. You should also make sure the security system is in a disarmed state before accessing the Settings menu. We recommend running this test every 30 days or any time your IQ5 Hub WIFI connection seems unreliable. A solid WIFI connection is essential for features like remote access through Alarm.com, real-time notifications, and dual-path communication.

Running the WIFI Test

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen. The settings tray appears with volume and brightness sliders, along with quick-access icons for common functions. This tray is the starting point for reaching all configuration and testing menus on the IQ5 Hub.
  2. Touch Settings. The Settings page opens with options including Advanced Settings, home automation configuration, and display preferences. This is the main hub for adjusting your system's behavior.
  3. Touch Advanced Settings. The panel prompts you for an access code. Advanced Settings contains system tests, installer tools, and detailed configuration options that are protected behind a code entry screen.
  4. Enter your Master code (1234 by default) or Installer code (1111 by default). The code auto-advances once all digits are entered. The Advanced Settings menu appears with categories including Installation, System Tests, and other configuration options. For security purposes, change both default codes after your IQ5 Hub is installed.
  5. Touch System Tests. The System Tests page displays all available tests including WIFI Test, Cellular Test, Z-Wave Tests, Sensor Test, and more. Each test checks a different communication path on your panel.
  6. Touch WIFI Test, then press Run. The IQ5 Hub sends a test signal to your router to verify the wireless connection. The test typically completes within a few seconds. While the test runs, do not navigate away from the screen.
  7. Review your test results. A successful test displays "Pass" along with the date, time, and connection speed. If the test fails, check your router settings and verify the panel is within range of your WIFI network. You can also try restarting your router and running the test again. Connection speed indicates how fast data moves between the panel and router, which directly affects your monitoring service performance.

Tips

Running the WIFI test regularly helps you catch connectivity issues before they affect your monitoring service. If your test consistently shows slow speeds or failures, consider moving your router closer to the panel, reducing interference from other wireless devices, or adding a WIFI extender. The IQ5 Hub also supports dual-path communication, which uses both WIFI and cellular LTE to send signals. Even if WIFI fails temporarily, the cellular backup ensures your security system stays connected. Pairing your IQ5 Hub with PowerG sensors and other wireless devices relies on strong WIFI and RF performance, so regular testing keeps your entire system running at peak reliability.

Running a WIFI test on the IQ5 Hub helps ensure your system maintains a strong and reliable connection to your network.
