Is the Honeywell GSMX4G compatible with VISTA 20P?
Yes. The Honeywell GSMX4G cellular communicator is compatible with the Honeywell VISTA-20P wired alarm panel. This particular unit draws its power from the panel's ECP bus. Unlike the Honeywell GSMV4G cellular communicator which is powered by an included AC transformer. This can be convenient and cost effective if you are short of available power outlets and don't wish to purchase another transformer. The VISTA-20P ECP max output is 600 mA and the GSMX4G draws up to 250 mA in peak transmission. Be sure to calculate the total amperage of your existing and/or desired panel powered security devices before adding the GSMX4G.
If you are getting close or over the limit it is best to install a Honeywell AD12612 auxiliary power supply. This unit will add another 1.2 Amps to your system. Giving you the ability to expand and power more devices. You will also need a Honeywell 1361 AC transformer to power the AD12612 DC power supply. Since the panel should have a backup battery you can also connect an Ultratech 1240 backup battery to the power supply. This will keep the power flowing in the event of a power outage. Keeping all the powered devices of your system up and running.
If you have an existing VISTA series alarm system and looking to kill two birds with one stone, you may want to take a look at our Total Connect 2.0 upgrade Kits. We offer the GSMX4G-TC2 and the GSMV4G-TC2. Both include a cellular communicator and a PROM chip upgrade. This chip will bring your panel up to the newest spec. Essentially its a firmware upgrade in the form of a chip that can be swapped in with the flick of a paper clip. Unfortunately, the VISTA-15P and VISTA-20P are the only panels that offer these PROM chip upgrades.
Wondering which revision your panel is? Simply open up the beige metal can that houses your alarm system and read the number on the black PROM chip in the center of the board. It will read 'WA V20P- Revision#'. The last number is the revision of your panel. Please use the Honeywell Alarmnet compatibility chart to find out what your panel is capable of doing for you.
