What Does SIA Mean on a VISTA-P Alarm System?
SIA on a VISTA-P Alarm System means that the panel is compliant with Security Industry Association (SIA) CP-01 standards designed to reduce false alarms. From an end user's perspective, these panels operate in the exact same manner as their non-SIA counterparts, with very minor differences.
Many systems are available in both SIA-compliant and non-SIA-compliant versions. Both versions typically operate in the same manner for all intents and purposes. However, the SIA-version will have various hard-coded programming settings that are put in place to reduce the likelihood of false alarms. The panel will usually have a sticker or a code that identifies it as an SIA-compliant model.
There are many things an end user can expect when using an SIA panel. First of all, there are likely to be minimum Entry Delay and Exit Delay periods. You won't be able to disable the Entry and Exit Delay like you would for non-SIA-compliant systems. It is also not possible to disable the the rapid beep during the final seconds of the Exit Delay period when Arming Away. Most SIA-compliant panels will also require a minimum dialer delay setting.
There are certain areas where installing an SIA-compliant panel is mandatory. Trying to use a non-SIA-compliant panel in these designated areas can result in the failure to meet certain building codes and the failure to comply with local ordinances. As a result, the end user may be subject to various fines and penalties. You should check with your city's laws to find out if using SIA-compliant equipment is mandated in your area.
For the Honeywell VISTA Series, there are many SIA-compliant panels available. Users can purchase SIA-compliant versions of the VISTA 10P, VISTA 15P, VISTA 20P, VISTA 21iP and VISTA 128BPT. You should make sure to use the appropriate panel version if you intend on using the system in a location where SIA-compliant panels are mandated. This will help you avoid any fines or penalties that could be quite costly.
