Description

In this video, Jorge discusses which Alarm.com Security Cameras can be used with the 2GIG Edge Alarm System for live video streaming. Some of these cameras, specifically the indoor residential models, can also be used for audio streaming. All of the Alarm.com Cameras that can be used for live video streaming are internet protocol (IP) cameras. The residential models typically use WIFI connectivity to communicate across the internet, while the commercial models are usually Power over Ethernet (PoE) devices that rely on wired Ethernet connections for network connectivity.

All sorts of Alarm.com IP Cameras support streaming on the 2GIG Edge. Some compatible models include the ADC-V515, the ADC-V523, the ADC-V723, the ADC-V622-WELL, as well as commercial cameras like the ADC-VC726, the ADC-VC736, the ADC-VC826, and the ADC-VC836. There are many more cameras that support the feature, and really the only Alarm.com models that don't are usually the older ones. In some cases, you may need to apply a firmware update to a camera before it can be used for streaming. If you need to do that, then just get the camera online, and then have your monitoring provider manually push down an update.

When you go to stream cameras on the 2GIG Edge, the system must be connected to a WIFI network. It also needs to be monitored and set up with Alarm.com. Keep in mind that any camera you want to stream will need to be programmed with the Alarm.com account associated with the 2GIG Edge System. Additionally, you must enable the stream to panel feature for any camera you want to stream. This can be done using the Alarm.com website or the Alarm.com Mobile App. Lastly, you may be interested to learn that streaming is not only possible through the main 2GIG Edge Panel, but it can also be done using any 2GIG Edge remote Keypads paired with the system.

Hi, DIYers. Jorge here from Alarm Grid. Today, I'm going to be going over some of the alarm.com cameras that will actually livestream video, some of them do audio as well, to the new 2GIG EDGE panel. So if you guys have the new 2GIG EDGE system, you guys want to set up cameras around the house, alarm.com offers many different cameras. They have Wi-Fi-based cameras, and they have PoE cameras. PoE are Power over Ethernet cameras. So if you are going to do those, you need to make sure you have CAT 6 cable run to each location and a PoE switch. Wi-Fi ones-- if you haven't already done that, Wi-Fi ones might be easier for you guys to use because you simply plug them in for power, connect them to your Wi-Fi, make sure video is enabled on your monitoring service, and that's pretty much it. In order to enable the livestreaming from the cameras to the panel, you do need an alarm.com subscription, you need compatible cameras, and you need to access the website to go into the camera settings to stream them to the panel. We'll have another video on that as well to show you guys step by step how to actually enable the streaming. Today, I just want to go over a couple of the video cameras that are compatible. I have a couple of boxes here for you guys that I'll be showing in a second, but if you guys want to make it easier and follow along with the video, if you actually click-- there's going to be a link, an FAQ link, in our description that will take you to the written FAQ that we have for this video that has a list of all the compatible video cameras. So if you guys want to place an order through our website, you're more than welcome to buy some off of the AlarmGrid.com website. As for our monitored customers, if you guys are going to be using alarm.com, the EDGE system, the 2GIG Edge-- and you guys want alarm.com service with cameras, you just need to make sure you have signed up for a platinum or self-platinum plan, and we'll make sure we take care of that for you. So I grabbed a few examples. This is not-- these aren't the only cameras that are compatible, but these are some of the ones that I wanted to show you guys today. Most of the ones that are going to be able to do the audio and the video are going to be the indoor cameras. Typically, what you'll find is a lot of the indoor cameras do the video and the audio, whereas the outdoor cameras just do the video streaming to the panel. So for instance, here we have an alarm.com V515. It's actually going to be the first one on that list if you guys are looking at the FAQ. This is an indoor camera. It has a little mounting plate, so you guys can set it up on a counter somewhere if you guys would like, and this one does two-way audio, has night vision, HDR video. If you guys set this up, you guys can actually go into the alarm.com website for the camera, enable the streaming to the panel, and you'll be able to speak through the camera to-- or you'll be able to speak from the 2GIG EDGE to the camera and vice versa. So this one does-- this is an indoor one, so again, like I said, the indoor ones do the audio and the visual. Let me find an outdoor one. Here we have the ADC-V723. This is an outdoor Wi-Fi camera. Again, has the video analytics, which we also enable in most of our-- in pretty much all of our video camera subscriptions, if you guys are monitored with us. It does wide-angle HDR. Now, since this is outdoor, this will only stream video to the panel. All right? So if you guys have this set up, you won't be able to talk through the panel to the camera since it doesn't do the two-way audio to the panel, OK? So this is an example of an outdoor. Let's see what else we have here. This is the ADC-V523. It's an indoor camera. You see this one doesn't actually have the little plate on the bottom so that you can put it on a desktop, counter, or somewhere. This one actually has the one where you can swivel it, so if you want to place it on your wall and angle it down to face a certain area, you can do that with this camera. This one does have the two-way audio. Also has the video analytics. It has the HD video, and you would-- since this is indoor, you can also do the audio and the visual. And then we have this little tower here, the Wellcam. Comes in this small little box, and this one also, since it's indoors, it will do audio and visual. What I want to show you guys right now is the actual website that has the list of all the compatible video cameras. So if you guys just go to the description and click on the video link, it will open up the FAQ that has all the list of cameras, and you guys can place your order directly on the website if you guys want to buy one for your system. All right, guys. So I'm going to be looking at the FAQ on my tablet here. So if you've gone ahead and clicked the FAQ in the description, it's going to take you to this link here. Which alarm.com cameras support the 2GIG EDGE audio? Or the two-way audio with the 2GIG EDGE system. And pretty much, it kind of just covers everything that I said in the beginning. You need a platinum-level plan if you're monitored with us, or if you're monitored somewhere else, you're going to need a video subscription plan. But I want-- what I want to get to is the list here at the bottom. The top of the list here, starting at the ADC-V515 going down to the video doorbells, which are the SkyBells, these are going to be the cameras that support the two-way audio and the two-way video to the 2GIG EDGE security system. So you see there's a couple of indoors ones for you to choose from. Some of the ones are actually discontinued, so if you guys have them from before and you guys don't have some of the newer ones, you guys have a discontinued one, it's fine. Even though it's discontinued, it'll still work. For instance, the 521IR or the 522IR, if you click on them on our website, it'll actually say the product is no longer sold. If you click on the 521, also product is no longer sold by Alarm Grid. That pretty much means that it's been discontinued by alarm.com. So the top lists are going to be the indoor cameras. The only one at the top of the list that isn't an indoor is the video doorbell. Right? That one's going to go outside right by your front door where the doorbell is, and that one actually does-- I think it's the only outdoor camera that will do two-way audio and visual. If you scroll down to the bottom of the list there, now you have a list of all of the outdoor cameras, which obviously, if they're outdoor, they can be used indoors as well. That's why it says indoor-outdoor. But again, they're specifically meant to be used outdoors for outdoor weather conditions. These are going to be the ones that only do video. They do not support the two-way audio, so just keep that in mind when you guys are getting outdoor cameras. They are not going to do two-way audio. They'll only stream the video to the 2GIG EDGE security system. All right? And again, you can click on any one of these to get to the product page, look at the description, find out any specific details you're looking for, if they're Wi-Fi, PoE, what the angle is, what the specs resolution are. But yeah, this is going to be the list you're going to want to choose from when you're trying to get a security camera to stream to your 2GIG EDGE system. All right? I'm going to go ahead and close out of the page now. So that is the whole list of cameras that you guys can buy. As you saw, some of them were discontinued. You guys are more than welcome, if you guys have them from before, to reuse them. That's perfectly fine. They're still supported, they're just no longer sold. One of the quick things I want to touch on as well is if you guys do have these video cameras streaming to your 2GIG EDGE system, and if you guys have a secondary keypad, the 2GIG EDGE remote keypad, you can actually also stream the video cameras from that secondary keypad. So the keypad is very advanced. It actually pretty much almost does the same thing that the 2GIG EDGE system does. It just doesn't have the programming capabilities that the 2GIG EDGE because that's the brains of the system. That's where you do all of your programming. But the remote keypad will stream the video. And what I want to show you guys real quick is an example of what the video streaming on the panel looks like so you guys can kind of have an idea. All right? So to get to the video-- if you guys have the videos enabled, to get to the video cameras on your 2GIG EDGE, you're going to select Smart Home from the main screen. Once you hit Smart Home, if you guys don't have the video streaming enabled to the security system, you will not see that camera option. All right? So another thing to keep in mind, when you guys are enabling the streaming to the panel from the website, not the app, the website, it does take a couple of minutes for alarm.com to synchronize with the panel and let the system know, hey, these video cameras are going to be pushing video to you. So it takes a couple of minutes for that to actually sync. And if you guys want to try to force synchronize it, you guys can just do a hard reboot on the system. So unplug the backup ba-- or I'm sorry. Unplug the power supply and then the backup battery. It'll power off completely. Plug the backup battery back in, plug the power supply back in, and that'll be a hard reboot, and that should force the synchronization to alarm.com if you guys don't want to wait three to five minutes. All right. So we are here. If you don't have cameras, it's because you haven't enabled the streaming, or alarm.com hasn't synced it to the panel yet, so you just got to be a little patient. I'm going to hit Cameras. And I have two cameras set up on my system right now. Again, that is not your limit. Your limit is actually pretty much dependent on what your alarm company sets you at. With us, our max limit would be eight, and then if you need more, you can always contact us. If you want to add more cameras, we'll work something out. We have other video plans that will unlock another eight cameras for you, so just reach out to us if you are monitored with us and need more than eight cameras slots. Right now, for today's video, I only have two cameras here for you. And as you see, it backs you out. So Smart Home, Cameras. It loads up the video streaming here. One of them is a ADC-V523. That's going to be the indoor camera that I showed you guys earlier. And then the other one is an ADC-V515, which is the very first one that I showed you guys with the base plate on the bottom there. So right now, it says the device is offline. It could have disconnected from the Wi-Fi or just powered down. If you click on them, you can try to connect to the camera. As you see, it'll bring the video up. If I hit X on that, it'll bring that video up. The other one says connecting. If I click on this video camera here, I can disable the volume, or if I want to hear what's going on, I can just unmute it, raise the volume up. It says hold to talk, so you would hold. And then if there's somebody in the camera that you want to speak to, you would just speak to the panel, and the audio would come out on the other end. I'll release when I'm done talking. If I don't want to hear the audio from the camera, I'll just mute it. Again, I think if you have four cameras, it'll display four in, like, small, little thumbnails, and then you can scroll down if you have eight or if you have more. But basically, once you're done with that, you can leave it here, it'll back out to the main screen, or you can just hit the Home button. It'll back you out to the main screen as well. All right, guys. So I hope you found this video helpful. Again, make sure you take a look at the list so that you see all of the compatible video cameras that will stream to your 2GIG EDGE. Not every single alarm.com camera streams to panels, so you have to make sure you choose the correct ones. If you guys have any questions whatsoever, please feel free to email support@alarmgrid.
