Can I Connect a 2GIG GC3e to Apple HomeKit?
No, you cannot connect a 2GIG GC3e to Apple HomeKit. This is because HomeKit will not recognize the GC3e System. As a result of the GC3e and HomeKit being unable to interface, you cannot control the system using Siri voice commands, and you cannot enroll it with HomeKit Automations.
In most cases, an alarm system will integrate with a voice assistant through an interactive automation platform, such as Alarm.com. But HomeKit is a bit unique, in that it normally pairs with a compatible alarm panel directly through a WIFI connection. Apple HomeKit and the system will use with WIFI connection to communicate with one another. But while the GC3e supports WIFI, a HomeKit network will not recognize the system. This makes it impossible to pair a 2GIG GC3e with the Apple HomeKit platform.
Fortunately, 2GIG GC3e users have other options they can explore in terms of voice assistants, such as Amazon Alexa and Google Home. These voice assistants are notably integrated through the Alarm.com platform. With that in mind, the 2GIG GC3e must be monitored and set up with Alarm.com. Any command intended for the GC3e System that is made through the voice assistant will be first passed through Alarm.com, before ultimately being forwarded to the panel. Another benefit is that you can pair Z-Wave home automation devices with the GC3e so that they will be automatically pushed over to Alarm.com. You will then be able to control these devices by making verbal commands through your compatible voice assistant.
However, we do understand that some users will really want to build around the HomeKit platform. For those users, the 2GIG GC3e is not the best option. Instead, we recommend the Honeywell Lyric Alarm System. This system offers a fantastic HomeKit integration that allows you to have other devices on the HomeKit network respond automatically to various system actions, such as arming, disarming, and alarm events.
