Can I Use a Honeywell 4219 Zone Expander on a VISTA-50P?
No, you cannot use a Honeywell 4219 Zone Expander on a VISTA-50P. The VISTA-50P can only support polling loop zone expanders like the Honeywell 4208SN and the Honeywell 4208U. The only non-polling loop sensors you can use with the system are the ones connected with main panel board.
The VISTA-50P is hardwired polling loop alarm panel, designed for commercial use. The panel can only support nine (9) hardwired zones by default. These hardwired inputs are designed for standard, non-polling loop hardwired sensors. Any hardwired zone expansion must come through the panel's polling loop. For that, you will need to add polling loop zone expanders. Both the 4208SN and the 4208U can be used for this purpose. Both of these polling loop expansion modules will provide eight (8) additional hardwired zones for the VISTA-50P System.
Remember, the system supports up to 86 zones, and nine (9) wired zones are built into the panel. This means that you will need to add ten (10) polling loop expansion modules to max out the number of zones. But on the 10th and final expansion module, you will only actually use five (5) of the eight (8) available zones. Alternatively, you can add a wireless receiver in the form of a standalone module like a 5881ENH or a 5883H or a keypad with a built-in transceiver like the Honeywell 6160RF. This will allow you to start using wireless 5800 Series Sensors with the panel. By doing this, you can use up to 77 wireless sensors with the system. Just remember that the total number of zones (wireless + hardwired) cannot exceed 86.
It is important to remember that the zones provided from the 4208SN and the 4208U are for hardwired V-Plex Polling Loop Sensors only. You cannot use non-polling loop sensors with these expansion modules. Just make sure that whatever sensors you decide to use with a 4208SN or 4208U are of the V-Plex Polling Loop variety. Additionally, the 4208SN and the 4208U are very similar devices, but there is one key difference. The 4208U allows for both DIP Switch Programming and Serial Number Programming. But the 4208SN only allows for Serial Number Programming. Both module options will work just fine on a VISTA-50P.
