Yes, the IQ5 NS has a tamper switch. In fact it has a dual tamper, a panel tamper and a wall tamper with spring release, that detects if the panel is opened, pulled away from its backplate, or pried off of the wall. It reports a tamper condition and is enabled by default here on the panel.

How the Dual Tamper Works

The IQ5 NS (available in AT&T LTE and Verizon LTE) uses a dual tamper switch, which covers two kinds of physical interference. The panel tamper sits on the back of the unit and trips if the panel is separated from its backplate or opened. The wall tamper trips if the panel is removed from the surface it is mounted on. Together they help protect your security system against someone trying to physically remove or defeat the panel.

When a tamper is detected, the panel registers a tamper condition and, on a monitored system, can report that event so it does not go unnoticed. The tamper is designed as a spring-release mechanism, so the moment the panel loses proper contact with its backplate or the wall, the switch reacts. This is a standard part of the panel's built-in physical security, and it applies even though the IQ5 NS has no screen of its own.

Tamper Settings and Behavior

The Panel Tamper switch is enabled by default. Because the IQ5 NS is configured through the IQ Installer app rather than an on-panel screen, the related tamper options are managed there. There is a setting to enable or disable the Panel Tamper if a particular installation calls for it, and an Engineer's Reset option that, when enabled, requires a Dealer or Installer Code to clear the system after a tamper occurs. That reset requirement adds accountability in commercial settings.

For most installations, the tamper switch simply works in the background and you never think about it, until someone tries to take the panel off the wall. If the panel ever reports a tamper unexpectedly, the first thing to check is that the backplate is secure and the panel is seated properly, since a loose mount can trip the tamper on its own.
