How Do I Arm the Qolsys IQ5 NS Security System in Stay Mode?
To arm the IQ5 NS in Stay mode, use the Alarm.com mobile app, a compatible wireless keypad, or a PowerG keyfob. The IQ5 NS does not have a touchscreen display, so all arming is performed through external devices. Stay mode arms door and window sensors while keeping motion sensors inactive.
Before You Begin
The IQ5 NS (available in AT&T LTE and Verizon LTE versions) has no touchscreen, so arming and disarming cannot be done directly at the panel. Instead, use the Alarm.com app, a compatible wireless keypad such as the IQ Remote PG, or a PowerG keyfob. Make sure the Alarm.com app is installed on your smartphone and that everyone in your household has a valid user code. If you have not yet connected the IQ Installer app to your panel, see our guide on setting up the IQ5 NS with the IQ Installer app before proceeding.
The default Master Code is 1234 and the default Installer Code is 1111, but both should be changed during initial setup. When the system arms in Stay mode, the Status LED on the front of the panel changes from solid green (disarmed) to solid red (armed).
Arming in Stay Mode Using the Alarm.com App
The Alarm.com app is the primary way to arm and disarm the IQ5 NS remotely. Make sure you are logged into your Alarm.com account associated with your IQ5 NS system before following these steps.
- Open the Alarm.com app on your smartphone or tablet. The app displays your current system status and arming options.
- Navigate to the Security section of the app. Your current arming state and available arming modes are shown here.
- Touch the Arm Stay button. The app sends the arm command to your IQ5 NS over your cellular or WIFI connection.
- Confirm the system is armed by checking the Status LED on the IQ5 NS panel. A solid red LED confirms the system is armed in Stay mode.
Arming with a Compatible Keypad
If you have a compatible wireless keypad such as the IQ Remote PG connected to your IQ5 NS, you can arm in Stay mode by pressing and holding the Stay arm button for 2 seconds. If Secure Arming is enabled, you will need to enter your user code (default Master Code: 1234) after pressing the Stay button. The IQ Remote PG connects wirelessly and provides full security system control including arming, disarming, and sensor status.
Arming with a PowerG Keyfob
PowerG keyfobs such as the PG9939 can arm your IQ5 NS in Stay mode with a single button press. Press the Stay button on the keyfob to arm the system. The panel confirms the arming command by changing the LED status and sounding a confirmation beep if exit sounds are enabled.
Understanding Stay Mode
Stay mode is designed for when you are home and want perimeter protection without triggering alarms from interior movement. All door and window sensors remain active, but motion sensors are bypassed automatically. This allows you to move freely throughout your home while still receiving alerts if someone opens a protected door or window.
The IQ5 NS also supports an Auto Stay feature that automatically switches from Away mode to Stay mode if no entry or exit door is opened during the exit delay period. For complete protection, consider adding a professional monitoring plan and home automation devices to your system.
Arming your IQ5 NS in Stay mode provides essential perimeter protection while you remain inside your home.
