How Do I Arm the Qolsys IQ5 NS Security System in Stay Mode?

To arm the IQ5 NS in Stay mode, use the Alarm.com app, a wireless keypad, a PowerG key fob, or an IQ Remote PowerG. The IQ5 NS has no display, and the IQ Installer app has no arm button, so one of these devices must be set up first. Then follow the steps below to arm in Stay mode.

Ways to Arm the IQ5 NS in Stay Mode

The IQ5 NS (available in AT&T LTE and Verizon LTE) has no display, so you do not arm it at the panel. Arming and disarming are done with accessories and the Alarm.com app. The options are a wireless keypad, a PowerG key fob, an IQ Remote PowerG secondary display, or the Alarm.com app.

Stay mode is for times when you are home. It arms the doors and windows and leaves the interior motion sensors off, so you can move around freely while your security system still watches the entrances.

What You Need to Arm the IQ5 NS

The IQ Installer app is a programming tool. It has no button for arming or disarming, so it cannot arm the system. To arm in Stay mode, at least one of the arming devices above has to be set up on your system first, and you need a valid user code if the system requires one.

The IQ5 NS user guide lists the supported devices. They are the WireFree LCD keypad, the PG9929 and PG9939 key fobs, the IQ Remote PowerG, and the Alarm.com app. This article assumes at least one of them is already set up, and it covers how to arm with each one once it is.

What Stay Mode Does

Stay arming arms doors and windows only. Away arming arms doors, windows, and motion detectors. The Arm Stay No Delay setting is enabled by default, so the system arms in Stay mode immediately with no countdown. Secure Arming is disabled by default, so a code is required only if your installer turned it on.

Before You Begin

Close all doors and windows and check the Status LED on the front of the system. Solid green means disarmed and ready to arm, flashing green means it is ready but a zone is open, and solid orange means trouble on the system. When the system arms, the LED turns solid red, and flashing red means an alarm has occurred.

The default Master Code is 1234 and the default Installer Code is 1111. Change both during setup, and make sure each person who needs to arm the system has their own user code.

How to Arm in Stay Mode With the Alarm.com App

1. Open the Alarm.com app and sign in. Use the Alarm.com account that is connected to your IQ5 NS.

2. Touch Arm Stay. The app sends the command to the system over its cellular or WIFI connection.

3. Check the Status LED on the panel. A solid red Status LED confirms the system is armed.

How to Arm in Stay Mode With a Wireless Keypad

1. Make sure all doors and windows are closed. The keypad's Ready indicator must be on before you can arm.

2. Press and hold the Stay key for 2 seconds. Enter your access code if the system requires one. Do not leave the premises.

3. Check the keypad indicators. The Armed indicator turns on and the Ready indicator stays lit until the exit delay ends.

How to Arm in Stay Mode With a PowerG Key Fob

1. Make sure the system is disarmed. The fob's arming buttons work when the system is disarmed.

2. Press the Stay arm button. On the PG9929 and PG9939, Stay arm is the second button, next to Away arm, Disarm, and Panic.

How to Arm in Stay Mode With an IQ Remote PowerG

1. Touch the arming circle on the IQ Remote PowerG. This opens the arming options.

2. Touch Arm Stay. Arm Stay arms doors and windows only.

How to Disarm

A key fob has a dedicated Disarm button. If you walk through the entry door, the keypad beeps, so enter a valid user code before the entry delay expires. To disarm remotely, touch the Disarm icon in the Alarm.com app. A paired phone can also disarm the system with Bluetooth disarm, which is used for disarming only, and the system has separate settings that control it.

Auto Stay

The system has an Auto Stay setting, enabled by default. If you arm in Away mode but a delay door is not opened, the system assumes you are still home and changes the arming to Stay. For complete protection, consider adding professional monitoring and home automation devices to your system.
