How Do I Connect the Qolsys IQ Panel 4 To A WIFI Network?

To connect a Qolsys IQ Panel 4 to WIFI choose the menu option then go to Settings > Advanced Settings > WIFI. Be sure WIFI is activated, then find your network name in the list. Next, enter your WIFI password and hit connect. The password is case-sensitive, so be sure you enter it correctly.

The Qolsys IQ Panel 4 is a 7" All-In-One touchscreen alarm system. It has many features that seamlessly integrate with Z-Wave smart home devices. It offers 128 zones and 242 users. The panel is available in black or white and comes in different "flavors," allowing you to continue to use existing RF sensors when replacing an older wireless panel.

What we refer to as "flavors" are the various legacy RF receiver options available for the IQ Panel 4. These include the 319.5 Mhz (Qolsys/GE/Interlogix) flavor, 345 Mhz (Honeywell/2gig) flavor, and the 433 Mhz (DSC) flavor. All three (3) panel flavors that offer legacy RF receivers also support the 915 MHz PowerG frequency sensors. There is also a PowerG-only IQ Panel 4 version that does not offer legacy receiver support and comes only in white. In addition to panel color and receiver options, each IQ Panel 4 comes with either a Verizon or an AT&T LTE communicator built in.

The IQ Panel 4's built-in communicators use Alarm.com. Even when you are using WIFI, you must register the system using the built-in LTE cellular module. A cellular connection is a requirement for all Alarm.com panels. Alarm.com is an interactive service allowing you to monitor and control your alarm system remotely. It also provides the ability to manage automation and video devices (with a video plan). Alarm.com offers the ability to use dual-path communication to perform all these functions. It is accessible through the Alarm.com customer website or the Alarm.com app (iOS or Android).

The IQ Panel 4's built-in WIFI is an 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac dual-band module. It is capable of connecting to a 2.4GHz or a 5GHz network. Your home 2.4GHz network provides a good speed with a longer range. This is plenty fast enough for the IQ4 to do all that it needs. The 5GHz band provides a higher data rate but at a shorter range when compared to the 2.4GHz band. Either network will function properly as long as the system has a good, quality signal.

To connect the Qolsys IQ Panel 4 to WIFI, follow the steps below.

1. Access the WIFI menu. From the home screen, press the small grey bar at the top of the screen. Then choose Settings > Advanced Settings. Then provide the Master, Installer, or Dealer Code for the system (they are respectively 1234, 1111, and 2222 by default). Then choose WIFI to access the WIFI menu.

2. Connect to your WIFI Network. First, you must make sure that WIFI for the system is activated by verifying the box next to "Activate WIFI" at the top of the menu is checked. It is checked by default. Find your personal WIFI network name or SSID then click on it.

Next, you must enter the password for your WIFI network. Please be sure to take your time and enter this case-sensitive password correctly. Once entered, press connect and the system will connect to the network.

3. Test Connection. The IQ4 has a ton of built-in tests. Among these is the WIFI network test. Access this test in the advanced settings "Test" menu. This is found in Settings > Advanced Settings > enter Master/Installer/Dealer Code (default 1234/1111/2222) > System Test > WIFI Test > Run. You will be looking for a "Pass" indication. This test only checks the panel's connection to the modem/router. To test your WIFI all the way back to Alarm.com run the Dual-path WIFI test.

4. Exit the Menu. Press the picture of the house at the bottom of the screen to exit the WIFI Test menu and return to the home screen. Your changes will be automatically saved.
