How Do I Set Up PowerG Camera Images on the IQ5 NS System?

To set up the PowerG camera images on the IQ5 NS, open the IQ Installer app and then navigate to the Installer Settings, then set the PowerG Camera Image Capture Count and the Alarm Image Upload Limit as you prefer. Because the panel has no screen of its own, this is all done in the app.

What the PowerG Camera Image Settings Do

If you use PowerG PIR motion cameras with the IQ5 NS (available in AT&T LTE and Verizon LTE), these two settings control how those cameras capture and upload images during an alarm. A PowerG PIR CAM takes a burst of photos when it detects motion in an alarm, and these settings decide how many of those images get sent and whether later motion in the same arming period also uploads. Together they let you balance useful visual verification against bandwidth and storage on your security system. Here is what each one does:

Setting Default What it does
Image Capture Count 1 Sets how many images any PowerG PIR CAM uploads when triggered during an alarm. Choose 1 or 10.
Alarm Image Upload Limit Enabled When enabled, PIR CAMs upload images from only the first motion event in an arming period. Disable it to upload from every motion event that period.

In short, Image Capture Count controls how many photos come from a single trigger, and the Alarm Image Upload Limit controls whether only the first trigger of an arming period sends photos or every trigger does. The images upload to Alarm.com, where you view them.

Before You Begin

Because the IQ5 NS has no screen, its Installer Settings are reached through the IQ Installer app. If you have not yet connected the IQ Installer app to your panel, see our guide on setting up the IQ5 NS with the IQ Installer app before proceeding. You also need at least one PowerG PIR camera on the system for these to have any effect, since they only govern how those cameras behave during an alarm.

Set Up the PowerG Camera Images

  1. Open the IQ Installer app. Open the IQ Installer app on your mobile device and make sure it is connected to your IQ5 NS.

Open the IQ Installer app connected to your IQ5 NS.
  2. Navigate to Installer Settings. In the app, go to the Installer Settings and find the PowerG camera image settings.

Navigate to Installer Settings and find the PowerG camera options.
  3. Set the count and upload limit. Set the PowerG Camera Image Capture Count to 1 or 10, and enable or disable the PowerG Camera Alarm Image Upload Limit depending on whether you want first-motion-only or all-motion uploads.

Set the capture count and the upload limit.

Tips

Raising the Image Capture Count to 10 gives you far more detail of an alarm event, which is great for verification, at the cost of more data uploaded each trigger. Leaving the Alarm Image Upload Limit enabled keeps uploads to the first motion event, which avoids a flood of photos during a long event; disable it when you want a full record of everything that moves during the arming period. For most homes, the defaults of 1 image and first-motion-only are a sensible, bandwidth-friendly starting point.
