What Is in 2GIG's 1.19 Firmware Upgrade
2GIG's 1.19 Firmware Upgrade provides the ability for the 2GIG GC2 to support LTE communicators. The Firmware Update can be applied using the Firmware Update Cable or by using the Easy Updater Tool. The 1.19 Update is important, as LTE connectivity will ensure the longevity of the GC2 Panel.
The GC2 uses a cellular radio to communicate with the Alarm.com Servers. Alarm.com recently announced that they will no longer allow activations for 3G cellular communicators. And since 3G networks are set to be shutdown entirely in the coming years, upgrading to an LTE communicator is very important. Cellular service providers like AT&T and Verizon have promised to support their LTE networks well into the distant future. Upgrading to LTE will ensure that your GC2 System can remain monitored for many years to come.
An important thing to remember is that the system can only support LTE communicators when running Firmware Version 1.19 or higher. An exception to this rule is the older 2GIG LTEV-A-GC2, which could be run on Firmware Version 1.17. However, that communicator is no longer being manufactured. If you have an existing LTEV-A-GC2, though, it should work just fine.
As of April 2018, the latest Firmware Version available for the 2GIG GC2 is 1.19.3. This version provides support for the 2GIG AT&T LTE Communicator, which was released in May, 2019. The 2GIG GC2 now supports both a Verizon and an AT&T LTE communicator. You can currently purchase either the 2GIG LTEV1-A-GC2, which connects with the Verizon LTE Network or the 2GIG LTEA-A-GC2, which connects with the AT&T LTE network. These communicators require, respectively, Firmware Version 1.19.1 or 1.19.3 or higher.
If you need to update the firmware for your 2GIG GC2, then you can do so using the 2GIG UPCBL2 GC2 Firmware Update Cable or by using the 2GIG UPDV GC2 Easy Updater Tool. For more information on performing a firmware update on a 2GIG GC2 System, please consult this helpful FAQ.
