What Is The Difference Between A GSMVLP5-4G And A 3GL?

The GSMVLP5-4G and 3GL are both Honeywell gsm cell communicators that send alarm signals to AlarmNet’s servers, which forward the signals to a central monitoring station and to Total Connect 2.0. The main difference between the two communicators is the compatibility to the Lynx Touch series panels.

The GSMVLP5-4G is compatible with the Lynx Touch L5100, L5100-SIA,L5200, L5200-CN and the L5210. The GSMVLP5-4G is not compatible with the L5000 or the L5000-SIA.

The 3GL is compatible with the Lynx Touch L5200, L5200-CN, L5210, L7000 and L7000-CN. The 3GL is not compatible with the L5000 or the L5100.

Although, Honeywell does not list the GSMVLP5-4G compatible with the L7000 panel, we found it is compatible.

The GSMVLP5-4G and 3GL cell communicators are the preferred communication path for the Lynx Touch series panels as there are no wires to run or to be cut by a burglar. Users don’t have to worry about losing internet connection or power for any reason. Both the GSMVLP5-4G and the 3GL install directly inside the Lynx Touch control panel (make sure the control panel is powered down before installing the cell communicator).

Both the GSMVLP5-4G and 3GL come with their own sim card that can only be registered by an authorized Honeywell Dealer.

The GSMVLP5-4G and 3GL allows uploading and downloading of the control panel.

The GSMVLP5-4G and 3GL allows users to connect to Total Connect 2.0 which provides remote control of the alarm, home automation and video surveillance from any computer, smartphone or ios device. Users will also receive notifications via email and or text message on any alarm signal or event.

We got your account activated over the weekend so you should be able to log into totalconnect2.com using the username we sent you and the password you created using the TC2 welcome emails. You should be able to use LYNX Connect app as well as long as you are on the same network as the system.
Hi Frank, I already sign up for self monitoring service. Then I tried to login TC 2.0 App, It requiref user name and password. How can I obtain them? One more question. Can I use LYNX connect on Thailand via my L5100-WIFI and house internet router?
OK, Sterling. I got it. Thank you.
Hi Nake, as we said before, we can't confirm if the 3GL will work or not so you'll have to try it and see how it goes if you are interested in cellular monitoring in Thailand.
Hi Frank, How about 3GL? Could I utilize its in this area?
Happy to help. If you are interested in having us monitor your system, we have some great no-contract plans available online at https://www.alarmgrid.com/monitoring.
Yes we offer our self monitoring service in Thailand! Feel free to sign up at your convenience.
Regarding no-contract service option, Is that available in my region (Thailand) ?
Thanks for the clarification. I recently ordered a Lynx Touch L5200 and a 3GL and realized afterwards I didn't ordered the newest communicator for this panel. Good to know there is no appreciable difference and I should be good with the 3GL for Total Connect 2.0!
No, there is no noticeable speed difference between the two modules. Technically, the GSMVLP5-4G is 2G/3G/4G as it works on AT&T's HSPA and HSPA+ network. The 3GL is only 2G/3G as it doesn't support the faster HSPA+ network. As the system isn't a mobile device downloading videos or streaming content, the speed of HSPA+ is not needed and wouldn't even be noticeable when comparing. We can't really speculate on the likelihood of AT&T dropping the HSPA network and not the HSPA+ network but that would be the only reason that the GSMVLP5-4G would be a better option.
You should get the L5100-WIFI module (https://www.alarmgrid.com/products/honeywell-l5100-wifi ) and sign up for our Self Bronze plan at the bottom of our sign up page - https://www.alarmgrid.com/monitoring. With that communicator and no-contract service option, you'd be able to arm/disarm the system from a mobile app and from totalconnect2.com. You'll also be able to setup alerts on system events to any number of recipients.
Hello, I am Nake from Thailand. I have question of option module which I have to purchase. If I have Lynx 5200 panel and I need panel send notification to my smart phone when alarm occurs, which module I have to additionally purchase ?
Is there a performance (connection speed) difference between the GSMVLP5-4G and the 3GL? The product description indicate the GSMVLP5-4G is 4G compatible, but would that make a real difference in a typical US Alarmnet application?
