Description

The DSC PowerSeries NEO HS2128NK is a hardwired alarm control panel designed for applications that require a large number of zones. It offers support for up to eight (8) partitions and 1,000 unique user codes. An added wireless receiver allows the system to support DSC PowerG Sensors.

Many commercial establishments use the PowerSeries NEO HS2128NK because of its large number of zones. The system will support up to 128 zones. However, only eight (8) hardwired zones are built into the board. If you want to increase the number of hardwired zones, you must add a DSC HSM2108 Expansion Module. This will add eight (8) additional zones to the panel. Up to 15 of these expansion modules can be added to reach the maximum 128 zones.

However, many users will want to use wireless PowerG Sensors with their PowerSeries NEO System. This also requires an add-on, in the form of a compatible wireless transceiver module. We strongly recommend purchasing a DSC HS2LCDRF9 N NEO Keypad for this purchase. You will need a keypad to control the system anyway. The HS2128NK does not come with an included keypad. By adding the RF NEO Keypad, you will get both a device for controlling and programming your system and a PowerG Transceiver Module in one convenient device.

PowerG Sensor support is a major reason to choose the PowerSeries NEO over other hardwired security systems. These sensors can be used from up to 2km away from the transceiver module with a direct line of sight. This is perfect for detached garages, barns and large business complexes. Remember that large metal objects and obstacles like thick walls can reduce this range. You may be able to overcome this issue with a PowerG Repeater. This can increase the maximum nominal range to up to 4km. Remember that wireless zones and hardwired zones together cannot exceed 128.

You will also want to add a communicator for your PowerSeries NEO Panel. This will allow your system to receive reliable monitoring service and connect with Alarm.com. There are dual-path communicators available for the NEO that provide IP connectivity and LTE cellular service (AT&T or Verizon). This is a very important addition to your PowerSeries NEO Alarm System, as it is the best way to ensure that you receive reliable monitoring service. The Alarm.com PowerSeries NEO Communicators also function as Z-Wave controllers for smart home automation control. Please note that you will need a Gold Plan or higher from Alarm Grid to activate these communicators and gain access to Alarm.com. More information is available on our alarm monitoring page.

Please note that there are other options if you want a system with PowerG support. We recommend the Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus System. This is a wireless security system that requires much fewer add-ons than a PowerSeries NEO Panel. This system also supports 128 zones, but its PowerG Transceiver module is built into the system. You also get the choice of one legacy sensor frequency for added versatility (319.5 MHz, 345 MHz, 433 MHz). Since this is a wireless all-in-one system, it includes a built-in touchscreen keypad, integrated WIFI, and a built-in LTE communicator (AT&T or Verizon). This is usually the system to go with if you want to use PowerG. The only reason to choose the NEO is if you need a hardwired system.

This version of the PowerSeries NEO provides support for 999 programmable user codes, plus a Master Code. Up to 1,000 system events can be stored in the event log. Bell output and siren supervision is included. The system is SIA CP-01 compliant. A backup battery is required - we recommend the UltraTech 1240. The system is powered using a 16.5VAC, 40VA transformer (not included). The panel comes housed in a large metal cabinet enclosure.

Note: No transformer is included with this system. We recommend purchasing the Honeywell 1361-GT Transformer separately, which will work fine with the DSC PowerSeries NEO Security System.

Very Powerful System
Submitted on 12/29/2020 Alarm Grid

The DSC HS2128NK is a 128-zone DSC PowerSeries NEO System that comes with the main board and a metal enclosure for securing the system. It also includes a plug-in transformer for providing power. This is a very robust hardwired security system that can certainly get the job done if you are looking to hardwire a very large home or office, with the ultimate goal of setting up effective alarm monitoring service. This panel is honestly overkill for most practical situations, but if you need to build around a wired system with 128 zones and support for many powerful features, then it is an excellent starting point. We give the DSC HS2128NK a 5-star rating, but we only recommend it for the biggest installations.

There are many things to like about the DSC HS2128NK. Its support for up to 128 zones in nothing to scoff at. We like how it includes an enclosure for housing the otherwise vulnerable circuit board. Dual-path communicator options are readily available for the system. And you have the option of adding a PowerG Transceiver so that you can begin adding wireless PowerG Sensors. These are some of the best sensors in the industry thanks to their impressive wireless range and state-of-the-art 128-bit AES encryption.

The biggest downfall regarding the DSC HS2128NK is that you are literally starting from scratch. You will need to supply everything from your own alarm wiring to keypads for controlling the system. You might also need wired zone expanders for adding wired sensors beyond the eight (8) on-board terminals. But once you get it going, you can really build a powerful system. You might also consider the fact that DSC is a bit of a complex system to work with, so this might not be the friendliest system if you do not know what you are doing. But still, we have to give this system a 5-star rating thanks to its powerful features and capabilities.

Good: 128 Zones, Dual-Path Options Available, PowerG Transceiver Can Be Added

Bad: Start from Scratch, Complex System

Bottom Line: 5 Stars
