What Causes an Arming Error on the Qolsys IQ5 NS System?

An arming error on the IQ5 NS occurs when the system cannot arm due to open sensors, an incorrect user code, or unacknowledged trouble conditions. The Status LED flashes green when zones are open, and the built-in speaker announces which zones need attention when you press the power button.

Before You Begin

The IQ5 NS (available in AT&T LTE and Verizon LTE versions) has no touchscreen display. Arming error feedback is delivered through the Status LED and the built-in speaker. Press the power button once to trigger speaker announcements identifying open zones or trouble conditions. If you have not yet connected the IQ Installer app to your panel, see our guide on setting up the IQ5 NS with the IQ Installer app before proceeding.

The default Master Code is 1234 and the default Installer Code is 1111, but both should be changed during initial setup. Arming the IQ5 NS requires a valid user code when Secure Arming is enabled. After five incorrect code attempts, the panel locks access for 90 seconds.

Common Causes of Arming Errors

Open Sensors: The most common cause of an arming error is one or more sensors reporting an open status. This includes doors or windows that are physically open, or sensors that have lost communication with the panel. The Status LED flashes green when the system has open zones. Press the power button once to hear which zones are open.

Incorrect User Code: Entering an invalid user code triggers an error tone and prevents arming. The default Master Code is 1234. If Secure Arming is enabled, a valid user code is required to arm the system. After five incorrect code attempts, the panel locks access for 90 seconds.

Unacknowledged Trouble Conditions: If your installer has enabled trouble acknowledgment requirements, the system will not arm until you view and acknowledge any existing troubles. The Status LED shows solid orange when a trouble condition exists. Press the power button to hear trouble announcements, then press it again after the announcements end to clear them.

Low Panel Battery: If the Refuse Arming When Battery Low setting is enabled, the panel will not arm when the backup battery drops below 8%. Connect the panel to AC power and allow the battery to charge before attempting to arm.

Tampered Sensors: Sensors showing a tamper condition indicate the sensor cover has been removed or the sensor has been physically disturbed. When Auto Bypass is disabled, tampered sensors prevent arming. Inspect the sensor and secure its cover to clear the tamper condition.

Resolving Arming Errors

To resolve an arming error on the IQ5 NS, first press the power button to hear which zones or troubles are preventing arming. Close any open doors and windows, then try arming again. If a sensor is malfunctioning, bypass it using a connected keypad or the Alarm.com app. For trouble conditions, press the power button after the announcements end to acknowledge and clear them. If the Status LED continues to flash green or show solid orange, contact your installer for assistance.

Auto Bypass Feature

The IQ5 NS includes an Auto Bypass feature that is enabled by default. When Auto Bypass is on, the system automatically bypasses any open or tampered sensors when you arm, allowing the system to arm without manual intervention. The bypassed zones will not trigger an alarm during that arming period. This feature can be disabled by an installer for commercial or compliance installations where all zones must be secured before arming.

LED Status Indicators

The IQ5 NS uses the Status LED to indicate arming readiness. Solid green means the system is disarmed and ready to arm with all zones closed. Flashing green indicates the system is ready to arm but has open zones that will be bypassed. Solid orange indicates a trouble condition that needs attention. Solid red means the system is armed. Understanding these LED states helps you quickly assess why an arming error occurred.

Arming errors on the IQ5 NS are typically caused by open sensors or trouble conditions that can be quickly resolved.
