What Does a Solid Green Power LED Mean on the IQ5 NS Panel?

A solid green Power LED on the Qolsys IQ5 NS indicates the panel is receiving AC power from its external 12V DC power supply and operating normally. This LED status confirms the panel is properly connected to electrical power and does not require battery backup for operation at this time.

Before You Begin

The IQ5 NS (available in AT&T LTE and Verizon LTE versions) does not have a touchscreen display. Instead of a screen, the IQ5 NS uses two LED indicators on the front panel to communicate power and system status at a glance. Understanding these LED colors and patterns is essential for monitoring your panel without a screen. If you have not yet connected the IQ Installer app to your panel, see our guide on setting up the IQ5 NS with the IQ Installer app before proceeding.

The default Master Code is 1234 and the default Installer Code is 1111, but both should be changed during setup. The IQ5 NS works with PowerG sensors, Z-Wave devices, and Bluetooth accessories as part of a complete security system platform. All configuration is performed through the IQ Installer app on your mobile device.

IQ5 NS LED Indicator System

The IQ5 NS front panel includes two LED indicators that work together to show complete system status. The Power LED displays power source information, while the Status LED shows arming status and alarm conditions. These two indicators replace the touchscreen display found on the IQ Panel 5 and IQ5 Hub.

Power LED Status Meanings

The Power LED displays three different states to indicate the panel's power source. A solid green Power LED means the system is powered by AC from the included 12V DC power supply — the normal operating state when properly installed. A flashing green Power LED means the system is running on battery backup only, indicating loss of AC power. When the Power LED is completely off, the panel is powered down entirely.

Solid Green Indicates Normal Operation

When you see a solid green Power LED, your IQ5 NS is operating under optimal power conditions. The panel draws power from the included external 12V DC power supply, which connects to a standard 120V AC electrical outlet. This power supply must be located in the same room as the control unit and connected to a circuit that cannot be turned off by a switch or dimmer.

The panel's lithium-ion battery remains fully charged while AC power is available. Your monitoring service receives regular communication signals confirming the system is online. All connected PowerG sensors maintain their wireless connections and system features remain fully operational.

Verifying Power Status Without a Screen

The IQ5 NS lacks a touchscreen display, making the LED indicators your primary visual reference for system status. To check power status, look at the Power LED on the front panel — solid green confirms AC power is present. For audio confirmation, press the power button on the right side of the panel once while the system is disarmed. The speaker will announce current alarms, troubles, and system status.

You can also check power status through the IQ Installer app on your iOS or Android device. The app connects over WIFI and displays battery voltage, AC power status, and other system diagnostics.

What to Do If Power LED Is Not Solid Green

If your Power LED is flashing green instead of solid green, check that the power supply remains plugged into a working electrical outlet. Verify the barrel jack connector is fully inserted into the panel's power port. Test the electrical outlet by plugging in another device to confirm power availability.

The IQ5 NS uses a specific 12V DC power supply included with the panel. Using an incorrect power supply can damage the panel or prevent proper operation. If the power supply has failed, contact Alarm Grid for a replacement. A flashing green Power LED that persists after checking all connections indicates a power supply failure or tripped circuit breaker.

Other IQ5 NS LED Status Indicators

The Status LED communicates security system state alongside the Power LED. Solid green means disarmed and ready; solid red means armed; flashing red means an alarm has occurred. Solid orange indicates a trouble condition such as low sensor battery or communication failure. Solid blue appears when the panel enters IQ Installer pairing mode. The IQ5 NS supports home automation through Z-Wave integration, Bluetooth disarming, and wireless keypad compatibility, all managed through the IQ Installer app.

A solid green Power LED on the Qolsys IQ5 NS confirms normal AC power operation and proper system function.
