Description

The Honeywell CELL-EXT is an AlarmNet external antenna cable used for adding an external cellular antenna to the LTE-L57A, LTE-L57V, LTE-IA, LTE-IV, LTE-XA and LTE-XV cellular alarm communicators. The CELL-EXT will allow a compatible antenna to be added to improve cellular signal strength.

The CELL-EXT has served as a reliable antenna cable for quite some time. It was originally designed for the GSMVLP5 and GSMVLP5-4G modules. It is also compatible with the LTE communicators for the VISTA Series Systems and the LYNX Touch Systems. These communicators include the LTE-IA, the LTE-IV, the LTE-XA, the LTE-XV, the LTE-L57A, and the LTE-L57V. Remember that the added antenna will need to be compatible with the appropriate cellular signal. If you are using an LTE communicator, make sure you get an LTE communicator. With the 3G sunset approaching, LTE communication is most commonly used with alarm systems.

This cable is also used with many older communicators. The GSMVLP5 is a cellular alarm communicator compatible with the original L5000 LYNX Touch wireless security system, and the GSMVLP5-4G is a cellular alarm communicator compatible with the newer L5100 LYNX Touch wireless security system. Sometimes, when installing a LYNX Touch security system that uses cellular alarm communications, the cellular signal strength is not adequate from where the LYNX Touch alarm control panel is mounted. Therefore, you would have to add an external antenna to the GSMVLP5 or GSMVLP5-4G cellular alarm communicators that fit inside the LYNX Touch control panel to get a better point of cellular reception. The GSM-EXT is the cable that allows you to do that.

Due to the antenna connector on the AlarmNet GSMVLP5 and GSMVLP5-4G communicators, the normal K14207LF cable that is used to connect other AlarmNet cellular communicators to an external antenna cannot be used. However, the GSM-EXT cable provides the needed link between the LYNX Touch cellular alarm communicators and an external antenna. Once a GSM-EXT has been added, you are able to connect a GSM-ANT or GSM-ANT3DB external antenna to a GSMVLP5 or GSMVLP5-4G cellular alarm communicator. The GSM-ANT is an indoor flat blade antenna with a ten foot cord that allows you to extend the cellular point of reception up to ten feet from your LYNX Touch wireless security system. The GSM-ANT3DB is a weatherproof 3dB antenna that you can mount indoors or outdoors. While the GSM-ANT is a standalone antenna that connects directly to the GSM-EXT, the GSM-ANT3DB requires some extra connector cables.

There are a few different options for adding a GSM-ANT3DB weatherproof antenna to the Honeywell GSM-EXT antenna cable. You can use the GSM-3DBKT antenna kit, but then you will need to add a coax extension cable as well. The 7626-5 coax cable provides five feet of extension cable. The 7626-25HC provides up to twenty five feet of extension cable and the 7626-50HC provides up to fifty feet of extension cable. Of course, there is also the GSM3DB25KT external antenna kit. The GSM3DB25KT, added to a GSM-EXT, provides you with everything you need to mount a GSM-ANT3DB up to twenty five feet from your LYNX Touch cellular security system. If you need to go up to fifty feet from the LYNX Touch, so that you can mount the GSM-ANT3DB antenna outside, you should add the GSM3DB50KT antenna kit to the GSM-EXT external antenna cable.

The internal antenna connector on the GSMVLP5 and GSMVLP5-4G cellular alarm communicators is very delicate. Therefore, we urge you to be very careful when installing your GSM-EXT antenna cable. To install the Honeywell GSM-EXT, first power down your LYNX Touch alarm control panel by removing the back up battery and unplugging the power supply from the wall. You can then remove the cellular alarm communicator from the LYNX Touch alarm control panel. Next, you will need to remove the two screws that hold the communicator’s circuit board to the plastic housing. Once you have removed the circuit board, you will need to flip it over and very carefully remove the PH8 wireless module which is a gold rectangular module. You will notice that there is a connector along the edge of the PH8 module and you should grip the device on the side that has the connector.

Also note that there is an antenna cable that connects the PH8 to the circuit board, so be careful not to pull too hard when removing the PH8. Once you have the PH8 disconnected, carefully remove the antenna cable from the PH8 and from the circuit board. You can then connect the GSM-EXT cable to the antenna connector on the PH8. With the GSM-EXT connected, you can reconnect the PH8 to the circuit board and screw the circuit board back into the plastic housing. Make sure not to pinch the GSM-EXT cable when screwing the circuit board back into place. Finally, reinstall the GSMVLP5 or GSMVLP5-4G cellular communicator inside the LYNX Touch control panel and route the GSM-EXT cable so it exits through the backside of the LYNX Touch. There is a tie wrap point that should be used to secure the GSM-EXT to the inside of the LYNX Touch. You can then connect your GSM-ANT or GSM-ANT3DB antenna kit to the GSM-EXT and power the LYNX Touch back up.

Note: The CELL-ANT3DB already comes with this cable included. This cable is only meant to be bought as a replacement.

Good Cable for External Antennas
Submitted on 08/07/2019 Alarm Grid

The Honeywell CELL-EXT is absolutely necessary if you intend to use an external antenna with many Honeywell LYNX Touch Communicators and Honeywell VISTA Communicators. Because this cable is required in these applications, we are giving it a 5 Star rating. Just be aware that this cable is already included with the CELL-ANT3DB.

If you find that you are not receiving adequate cellular signal for your alarm system, then adding a cellular antenna is often a great option. You just need to keep in mind that a cellular antenna will only increase the signal strength for your alarm system. If you want to improve the cellular signal strength for multiple devices using the same network, then you might consider getting a cellular amplifier instead. If you get the right model, you may be able to improve the reception for your alarm system AND your smartphone when you use it at home.

But if you do decide that a cellular antenna is the best option, then you may need a Honeywell CELL-EXT to complete your setup. This is a simple cable that connects a VISTA or LYNX Touch Communicator with the external antenna. The CELL-EXT was originally used with various 3G communicators. In fact, the Honeywell CELL-EXT was originally called the Honeywell GSM-EXT for its use with various LYNX Touch Communicators that connected across the AT&T 3G GSM Network. However, the name was later changed to the Honeywell CELL-EXT, as the cable is still compatible with the newer LTE communicators for these systems. Some of the most popular communicators used with this cable include the LTE-L57A, the LTE-L57V, the LTE-IA, the LTE-IV, the LTE-XA, and the LTE-XV. Our technicians find that the cable is very easy to connect and that it is quite durable.

Please note that there are some older communicators that may use a Honeywell K14207LF Cable instead of a Honeywell CELL-EXT Cable. However, most of those communicators have since been discontinued. Today, the CELL-EXT is the most common cable for connecting the LTE communicator for a LYNX Touch or VISTA System to an external antenna. One final thing to consider is that you may need a secondary antenna coaxial cable to extend the antenna for outdoor use. Honeywell offers such cables ranging from 5 to 50 feet in length. However, this is normally only required for outdoor antennas like the Honeywell CELL-ANT3DB. Indoor antennas like the Honeywell CELL-ANTSMA and the Honeywell CELL-ANTU do not normally need a cable beyond the CELL-EXT. And in some cases, the antenna will actually include the CELL-EXT as part of the package. Check the contents to make sure.

Bottom line, the CELL-EXT is required in many cases to connect a Honeywell Alarm System Communicator with an external antenna. It gets 5 Stars because it serves its purpose.

Okay, great. If you did have an older 2G unit, those units did use a different connector for the external antennas so the GSM-EXT would be the perfect item for your situation assuming your new GSMV4G doesn't have sufficient signal strength without an external antenna. Did you see we also offer no-contract monitoring plans online at https://www.alarmgrid.com/monitoring? As long as you aren't under contract, it would be an easy switch if you were interested in moving over to our company for the monitoring service of your system.
Hi Sterling! Thank you very much for your response. Yes, I do have an antenna. I had one hooked up to my old box but the connection is different. Thanks again for your help!
Yes, the GSM-EXT is a cable used for adding an external antenna to the GSMV4G. However, it won't work without a separate antenna and most of the available antennas come with the cable so do you already have an antenna?
Will this work with GSMV4G?
Thank you, I ordered it.
Yes. The part number has actually changed to Cell-EXT, but it is required to put an external antenna on most of the 4G communicators.
Will this connect to an IGSMV4G? I'm replacing my IGSMV (2G) and it has an external antenna that will not connect to the new IGSMV4G
