Can I Use a Honeywell 5828 With a 2GIG GC3e?
No, you cannot use a Honeywell 5828 with a 2GIG GC3e. The Honeywell 5828 only works with certain Honeywell Panels that support a House ID setting. The GC3e does not have such a House ID setting. This makes the system completely incompatible with the Honeywell 5828 Wireless Keypad.
Many long-time users will recognize the Honeywell 5828 as the bi-directional (two-way) keypad from the Honeywell 5800 Series. Most devices from this lineup use one-way 345 MHz communication, and they work just fine with the GC3e. But since the Honeywell 5828 is one of the few devices from this lineup that uses bi-directional connectivity and a House ID, it will not work with this system.
The 2GIG GC3e lacks the House ID setting needed to interface with the Honeywell 5828 Keypad. Only a specific selection of panels have this setting. The systems that support the House ID needed for the 5828 include the Honeywell LYNX Touch Panels and the Honeywell VISTA Systems when an added transceiver module is used. These systems are the only ones that can support the Honeywell 5828 Keypad.
Fortunately, the 2GIG GC3e has many other options available when it comes to wireless keypads. The most similar one compared to the Honeywell 5828 in terms of functionality is the 2GIG PAD1-345. This is a basic touchpad device that provides simple arming and disarming functionality. Many users who only want to use an external keypad for arming and disarming, and nothing more, will find this keypad satisfactory.
But the 2GIG GC3e also has some more feature-loaded touchscreen keypads available. Specifically, these are the 2GIG SP1 and the 2GIG SP2. The 2GIG SP1 has more features than the 2GIG SP2, including voice annunciation, home automation capabilities, and a weather forecast display. Both the SP2 offer the ability to view system status, bypass zones, arm/disarm, and produce chimes.
