How Do I Add a Door Sensor on the IQ5 Hub Security Panel?
The IQ5 Hub supports PowerG and legacy wireless door sensors for monitoring entry and exit points around your home. Adding a door sensor involves accessing the Installer menu, choosing between auto-learn or manual entry, and then configuring sensor details like type, group, name, and chime.
Before You Begin
The IQ5 Hub (available in AT&T LTE and Verizon LTE) supports up to 128 security sensors, including door and window contacts, motion detectors, and life safety devices. Before adding a new door sensor, make sure your DSC PGP9945E or compatible PowerG+ door sensors are nearby and ready for enrollment. You will also need the Installer code (default: 1111) to access the sensor programming menus.
Adding a Door Sensor with Auto Learn
Auto Learn is the fastest way to add a door sensor to your security system. The panel listens for a sensor signal and automatically populates the sensor ID, saving you from entering it manually.
- Swipe down from the top of the screen. The Settings Tray appears showing volume, brightness controls, and quick access icons. This tray provides a shortcut to the Settings menu without navigating through the home screen.
- Touch SETTINGS. The Settings page displays with options for Advanced Settings, Weather, Photo Frame, and other preferences.
- Touch ADVANCED SETTINGS. The panel prompts you to enter an authorized code. This section contains installer-level menus for device enrollment and system configuration.
- Enter the Installer code (default: 1111). The panel auto-advances after the final digit and opens the Installer menu, providing access to Devices, Dealer Settings, System Logs, and other categories.
- Touch DEVICES. The Devices menu shows all device management options, including Security Sensors, Z-Wave Devices, Bluetooth Devices, and IQ Remote settings.
- Touch SECURITY SENSORS, then select Auto Learn Sensor. The panel enters listening mode and waits for a sensor signal. A spinning indicator confirms the panel is actively scanning for new devices.
- Trip the door sensor to send a signal. Open and close the door where the sensor is installed, or tamper the sensor by removing the cover. For PowerG door contacts, press and hold the enroll button on the sensor until the yellow LED flashes. The panel chimes and displays the sensor DL ID with a confirmation prompt.
- Touch OK to confirm the sensor. The sensor configuration screen appears showing fields for Partition Name, Sensor Type, Sensor Group, Sensor Name, Chime Type, Voice Prompts, Bypass, Source, and Chime Function. Set the Sensor Type to Door/Window and choose Sensor Group 10 (Entry-Exit, Normal Delay) for a main entry door.
- Select a Sensor Name from the preset list. Choose a descriptive name such as Front Door, Back Door, or Side Door. You can also create a custom description using the built-in keyboard for locations not covered by the presets.
- Configure the remaining fields. Set the Chime Type to your preferred notification sound, enable or disable Voice Prompts, and assign a Partition if partitions are enabled on your system. The Source field automatically populates based on the sensor frequency detected during enrollment.
- Touch Add New to complete enrollment. The sensor is saved and active on your IQ5 Hub. The panel returns to the auto-learn screen so you can continue adding sensors if needed.
Adding a Door Sensor Manually
If auto-learn does not detect your sensor, you can add it manually by entering the sensor DL ID found on the back of the device or on its packaging.
- Navigate to Security Sensors and select Add Sensor. The manual sensor entry screen appears with fields for Sensor DL ID, Source, Partition, Sensor Type, and additional configuration options.
- Select the appropriate Source. Choose PowerG, SRF319, SRF345, or SRF433 based on the frequency of the door sensor you are adding.
- Touch the Sensor DL ID field and enter the code. Type the DL code or Sensor ID printed on the sensor label, then touch Done. For S-Line 319 MHz sensors, you can also touch Scan QR Code to use the panel camera to read the code from the sensor packaging.
- Configure all sensor fields. Set the Sensor Type to Door/Window, select the appropriate Sensor Group, choose a Sensor Name, set the Chime Type, and configure Voice Prompts and Bypass settings.
- Touch Add New to save the sensor. The door sensor is enrolled and active on the system.
Tips
After adding your door sensor, verify it works by opening and closing the door while the system is disarmed. The IQ5 Hub displays the sensor status on the home screen and announces the zone with a chime or voice prompt if those features are enabled. Once your sensors are enrolled, pair the system with an Alarm.com account and a monitoring plan for remote access and professional monitoring capabilities.
