Which Motion Sensors are Compatible with the Honeywell L5200?
The motion sensors that are compatible with the Honeywell L5200 are wireless 345 MHz motion sensors. This includes those from the Honeywell 5800 Series, such as the Honeywell 5800PIR-RES, the Honeywell 5800PIR-OD, the Honeywell 5800PIR-COM, the Honeywell 5800PIR, and the Honeywell 5898.
The motion sensor you choose for your L5200 will depend on your unique needs. And you might have multiple motion sensors used with the system, and they can all be different types. Arguably the most popular motion sensor for the system is the Honeywell 5800PIR-RES. This is a wireless motion sensor with a detection area of 40 by 35 feet, making it perfect for residential use. The sensor supports pet immunity for animals weighing up to 80 pounds.
There are many sensors similar to the Honeywell 5800PIR-RES, but with some added features and/or slightly different specifications. One example is the Honeywell 5800PIR. This sensor has identical specifications, but it adds a few features. By going with the 5800PIR, you also get a tamper cover (Loop 4, automatically programmed) and a low temperature sensor (Loop 3). Otherwise, the 5800PIR-RES and the 5800PIR are basically the same sensor.
For commercial use, the 5800PIR-COM is more powerful than the 5800PIR and the 5800PIR-RES. The detection area for the 5800PIR-COM is 80 feet by 60 feet. You can also swap in a long-range lens to make the coverage area 100 feet by 20 feet. The sensor lets you pick between low and high sensitivity modes, which are Loop 1 and Loop 2, respectively. Low temperature detection is Loop 3, and the tamper cover at Loop 4 does not need to be programmed.
If you are looking for a dual-tech motion sensor, then the Honeywell 5898 is an option. This sensor uses both passive infrared (PIR) and microwave technology to detect movement. Both the PIR sensor and the microwave sensor must be triggered for this sensor to activate. The standard lens for the 5898 offers a detection area of 60 feet by 50 feet, and you get a coverage area of 40 feet by 35 feet with its pet-immune lens. Pet immunity is up to 100 pounds.
For outdoor use, the Honeywell 5800PIR-OD is available. This motion detector can withstand weather conditions such as rain, snow, heavy winds, dust, and intense sunlight. Its protective exterior has an IP54 rating. The operating temperature for the sensor ranges from negative (-) 4 degrees Fahrenheit to 122 degrees Fahrenheit. Its coverage area is 40 feet by 40 feet. Honeywell also offers a newer Honeywell 5800PIR-OD2 Outdoor Motion Sensor.
Finally, there are motion sensor devices outside the Honeywell 5800 Series that will work with the L5200. There is the Optex WNX-40HW with its 40-foot by 40-foot coverage area. The sensor supports the Optex FL-60N Lens (sold separately) for a long-range coverage area of 60 feet by 6 feet. There is also the Optex WFX-360HW Ceiling-Mount Motion Sensor with a coverage diameter of 40 feet. Another option is the Optex FTN-RRHW Outdoor Motion Sensor.
