2GIG SP1 vs 2GIG SP2

The 2GIG SP1 and 2GIG SP2 are both touchscreen keypads designed for use with the 2GIG GC3 Security System. Both provide a second on-site access point for the system. The SP1 is the more advanced keypad, and it offers more features. Some users report that it works more reliably than the SP2.

Both the 2GIG SP1 and the 2GIG SP2 offer support for basic security controls for a GC3 System. This includes arming and disarming, checking current system status and bypassing system zones. Both feature full-color, 7-inch touchscreen displays. Both connect with the GC3 System through a local WIFI network or through a local access point (AP mode) on the GC3 system. The keypads have very similar dimensions, but the SP1 is a little bit thicker. Both keypads feature panic buttons for emergency situations. Neither keypad can be used for system programming. You can only program the system from the panel itself.

Alarm Grid has some helpful FAQs on pairing the SP1 and SP2 Keypads with a GC3 System, which are linked below:

However, the SP1 is more advanced when compared with the SP2. Both keypads offer Chime functionality, but only the SP1 offers Voice Annunciation for speaking zone names. The SP1 is also the only one of the two that supports smart home automation control for Z-Wave devices. This includes the ability to control individual Z-Wave devices and execute complete Z-Wave scenes. The SP1 also offers a five-day weather forecast and date/time display, both of which are not available on the SP2. Many users select the SP1 to gain access to these advanced features. Please note that the 2GIG SP1 requires the 2GIG GC3 System to be running firmware version 3.1.0.5572 or higher. The 2GIG SP2 requires firmware 3.0.2 or higher. You can learn more about updating the GC3 firmware from this FAQ.

Some users have reported that the SP1 works more reliably than the SP2. According to these users, the SP2 Keypad has some issues that haven't quite been worked out by 2GIG. For that reason, Alarm Grid generally recommends choosing the 2GIG SP1 over the 2GIG SP2. However, we also have many customers who have reported that the SP2 works exactly as it should, and they are perfectly satisfied with the keypad. But we did want to mention this for users who may be considering the SP2.

If you don't require a touchscreen keypad, you can also consider the 2GIG PAD1-345. This is a push-button keypad that was originally designed for the 2GIG GC2 System. But it will work just fine on a 2GIG GC3 as well. This keypad is relatively basic, but it is still fine for arming and disarming and triggering panics. However, you cannot bypass zones from a PAD1-345. If you want to learn how to pair a PAD1-345 with a 2GIG GC3 System, check this FAQ.
