Do All Resideo Smoke/Heat Detectors Work With PROA7PLUS?

Resideo, formerly Honeywell, has produced several different generations of wireless sensors. The original 5600 and 5700 wireless sensors are not compatible with the PROA7PLUS. The 5800 Series smoke and heat detectors can work with the PROA7PLUS, with the addition of the PROTAKEOVER module.

As it pertains to the question of sensor compatibility, all of the PROSeries panels from Resideo and Honeywell Home have the same specifications. All versions, including the Honeywell Home PROA7 and Resideo PROA7C, and the Honeywell Home PROA7PLUS and Resideo PROA7PLUSC can only support the 5800 Series wireless sensors from Honeywell if the PROTAKEOVER module is added. As we mentioned above, out of the box the PROA7PLUS can only support the Resideo SiX and PROSIX Series sensors. SiX Series sensors are used with the Honeywell Lyirc alarm system. When a SiX Series sensor is added to a PROA7PLUS, it is immediately upgraded to a PROSIX sensor. Once this happens, it can never be used with a Lyric Controller again. For this reason, be sure you plan to permanently make the switch before programming any Lyric sensor with a PROSeries panel.

Currently, in the 5800 lineup, Resideo offers the 5800SMOKEV and the 5809SS. These are a photoelectric smoke detector and a heat detector respectively. In the past, they also offered the 5808W3 smoke detector, the 5808LST smoke detector, the 5809 heat detector, and the 5800COMBO combination smoke, heat, and carbon monoxide detector. All of these devices are compatible with the PROA7PLUS when the PROTAKEOVER is added to the system and set to the proper frequency setting of Honeywell 5800.

There are a couple of important notes about the PROTAKEOVER module. For one thing, it can add compatibility for any one of several different frequencies. Each PROSeries panel can support a single PROTAKEOVER module, and each module can support a single legacy RF frequency. The supported frequency is set using a dial on the module. The options are:

Aside from smoke and heat detectors, the PROA7PLUS also supports other 5800 Series sensors when the PROTAKEOVER is added. Any uni-directional 5800 wireles sensor is compatible with the PROA7PLUS and PROTAKEOVER with one exception. The unidirectional keyfobs, including the 5804 and 5834 fobs are not supported. Also, any bi-directional wireless, such as the 5828 and 5828V keypads are not supported. You can tell when a 5800 Series sensor is bi-directional because it will require a House ID setting, and it will provide some type of status information about the panel it is used with. These devices will not work with the PROA7PLUS.

Important Note: When installing the PROTAKEOVER, be sure to follow all instructions. In particular, be sure you use the new backplate that comes with the PROTAKEOVER. It has the antenna that the module uses to receive wireless signals. Failure to use the proper backplate will result in your legacy wireless sensor signals not reaching the PROA7PLUS.
