How Do You Register The SIM On A Qolsys IQ Panel 4?

To initially register the SIM that comes in a Qolsys IQ Panel 4, provide the system's IMEI number to your alarm dealer. They will create your account and register the cellular communicator. The SIM that comes included in the Qolsys IQ Panel 4 should be used, and only with the IQ panel 4.

Having a cellular communicator in your alarm panel is a little confusing for some people. Some may think they will be adding the alarm panel to their cell phone plan, or that the carrier they choose for their Qolsys IQ Panel 4 must be the same carrier they use on their cell phone.

However, that's not the case. If your cell phone carrier provides a good strong signal inside your home or business where you plan to use the alarm system, then it's fine to choose the same carrier for your alarm. But, if your cell phone carrier does not provide a good signal in that area, then you should choose a version of the panel that uses a carrier that will.

Once you have selected the proper Qolsys IQ Panel 4 based on the best available cellular signal in your area you need to physically install the panel (assuming you'll be performing a DIY installation). This means choosing whether you will wall or desk mount your panel, and routing the power wiring accordingly. Once the panel is installed, contact your alarm dealer and set up a time to complete the system registration.

Alarm Grid customers will need to sign up for a monitoring plan using our site. Remember, you'll need to choose a Gold Plan (Self or Full) or higher when using the Qolsys panel. This is because in order to register with Alarm.com, a cellular communicator must be used. If you prefer a traditional central station monitoring plan, with no remote access or automation services included, you can sign up for our Cellular Alarm Monitoring Plan instead.

To register the SIM in your Qolsys IQ Panel 4, follow these steps:

1. Choose your panel As discussed above, you'll need to choose a panel based on the cellular carrier that provides the best signal in your area. In addition, choose a panel version that supports the best wireless sensors for your installation. The IQ Panel 4 comes in different versions. We'll link to each below:
   • PowerG-Only - Verizon
   • PowerG-Only - AT&T
   • PowerG + Qolsys/Interlogix 319.5 MHz - Verizon
   • PowerG + Qolsys/Interlogix 319.5 MHz - AT&T
   • PowerG + Honeywell/2GIG 345 MHz - Verizon
   • PowerG + Honeywell/2GIG 345 MHz - AT&T
   • PowerG + DSC 433 MHz - Verizon
   • PowerG + DSC 433 MHz - AT&T



2. Install your panel. Decide what the best mounting location is. This may be near an external wall, where cellular signal strength is best. Be sure to verify cellular signal strength before choosing a permanent location for mounting. Follow the instructions provided to properly mount the panel, either to the wall or to a desk stand or IQ Base. Once the panel is mounted and powered, you're ready to program zones.
   
   The easiest way to program zones is by using the Auto Learn Sensor feature. Reach it by tapping the gray bar at the top of the panel screen, just above the date and time, then pressing Settings > Advanced Settings > Entering the Installer or Dealer Code (1111 or 2222 respectively, by default) > Installation > Devices > Security Devices > Auto Learn Sensor. This puts the panel into listening mode. Any compatible sensors it hears transmit, it will show the serial number and give you the option to add that serial number to your system. When you press "OK" to add a sensor, you'll be taken to the screen where you can configure settings for that sensor. You can see information on programming zones starting on page 58 of the Installation Manual.
   
   
3. Find the IMEI Number. This FAQ and Video shows you how to find the IMEI number through panel programming. It should also be available on a sticker on the back of the panel.
   
4. Provide info to your dealer. Provide the IMEI number to your alarm dealer. This is the minimum information they will need to register your system. For Alarm Grid customers, when you sign up for monitoring, you will provide your name, address, email address, and IMEI number during the sign up process. We will use this information to create your account. You will receive an email with login instructions for Alarm.com, if you signed up for an account type with remote access and automation.
   
   If you will have central station monitoring, we will call you during registration and go through your contact information and zone list. We'll make sure you can arm the system and will set off an alarm to be sure the panel reports successfully to the monitoring station. If you need a Certificate of Alarm be sure and tell your activation specialist. They'll have you set off an alarm for each type of zone you have, i.e., burglary, fire, flood, etc. If you have technical or procedural questions, you can go over them with your activator during registration.
