Is the 2GIG Edge Compatible with Honeywell 5800 Sensors?

Yes, the 2GIG Edge is compatible with Honeywell 5800 Sensors. Any uni-directional (one-way) Honeywell 5800 Sensor that does not require a House ID Code for enrollment can be used with the 2GIG Edge. These wireless sensors can be auto-enrolled with the 2GIG Edge System in programming.

The 2GIG Edge is a rare example of a wireless security system that was released without its own signature lineup of wireless sensors. Instead, the system relies on backward compatibility for its selection of sensors. Compatible wireless sensors for the 2GIG Edge include the 2GIG eSeries Encrypted Sensors, the 2GIG 345 MHz Legacy Sensors, and of course, the Honeywell 5800 Sensors that operate at 345 MHz. Other third-party 345 MHz sensors may also be able to be used with the 2GIG Edge. As a general rule, the system accepts the 2GIG eSeries Sensors, and any non-encrypted uni-directional wireless sensor that operates at the 345 MHz frequency. It's also possible that 2GIG may release an "exclusive" sensor lineup for the 2GIG Edge sometime in the future. But as of May 2021, we have not received any word that they intend to make such a move.

When setting up Honeywell 5800 Sensors with the 2GIG Edge, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, the system has 100 wireless zones available. These 100 wireless zones are shared by all sensor types. Remember that some sensors may use multiple wireless zones for full functionality, with each zone using a different Loop Number. One example of a sensor that enrolls in multiple zones using different Loop Numbers is the Honeywell 5800COMBO. Make sure that you have at least one zone available before you go to add a new sensor.

Second, only uni-directional (one-way) Honeywell 5800 Sensors can be used with the 2GIG Edge. Any bi-directional Honeywell 5800 Sensors that use a House ID Code for pairing cannot be used with the 2GIG Edge. Those bi-directional Honeywell 5800 Sensors can only be used with the Honeywell LYNX Touch Systems and Honeywell VISTA Systems (with added receiver), as only those systems have the House ID Code setting that is necessary to support them. Some examples of Honeywell 5800 devices that use a House ID Code and cannot be paired with the 2GIG Edge include the Honeywell 5800WAVE Siren and the Honeywell 5828 Keypad.

Third, not every Honeywell 5800 Sensor will have an exact Equipment Code setting for you to use when you go to program it into the 2GIG Edge. This does not mean that the sensor cannot be used with the system, but you may need to decide on an appropriate alternative if the exact sensor model is not listed. Obviously, if you find the exact Equipment Code for the sensor, then you should go ahead and use it. For example, the Honeywell 5816 Door and Window Sensor has a specific Equipment Code of 0637 that you can use. However, if you find that the sensor you are trying to enroll does not have its own specific Equipment Code, then you will need to use a proper equivalent. In most cases, there will be an Equipment Code for "Existing Sensor Type", such as "Existing Door/Window Sensor" or "Existing Motion Sensor" or "Existing Glass Break Sensor" that you can use in these situations. Just make sure you set a proper Equipment Code, even if the exact Honeywell 5800 Sensor model is not listed, otherwise, the sensor may not behave properly on the 2GIG Edge System.

Hi Jay, I have successfully tested the 5800Combo on our test panel and here are settings for Fire and CO that I used to test. If learning in while programming, make sure 5800Combo is not seated on the base plate. Smoke programming Equipment Code = 0589 - HW(Honeywell) Smoke "5808W3" Fire - Sensor type = 09 24hr Fire TXID, either type in the Smoke Ser. No. found on the 5800combo label or press learn on the 2 Gig Edge, then press the 5800combo smoke test button 1 time to engage smoke test. Set Sensor Loop to 1 CO Programming Equipment Code = 0692 - Existing CO Detector CO - Sensor type = 14 - 24 hr Carbon Monoxide TXID, either type in the CO Ser. No. found on the 5800combo label or press learn on the 2 Gig Edge, then press the 5800combo CO test button 1 time to engage CO test. Set Sensor Loop to 1 Once programmed you can exit programming and test. For more info on how to program zones on the 2 Gig Edge please see our video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmomaJJUX_k
Curious if you ever tested?
I spoke with 2Gig tech support on 2 occasions. Both times they said it would not work. When the Edge first came out we did try conecting a 5800combo with no success. I was hoping that there was some sort of firmware upgrade for the 2Gig that fixes this compatibliity issue.
I'm curious, did you see this on the 2GIG site somewhere, or did you talk to 2GIG tech support? Where did you see that they said it's not compatible? Is it just because they don't have a specific equipment code for it? We didn't get a chance to test this week, but hopefully we can next week.
Hey Julia, I would be very interested to hear the outcome. I've called 2GIG twice now on the subject and both times I was told it would not work.
I spoke with 2GIG tech support and they advised they aren't really sure about the 5800COMBO. In theory, it should work as long as each of the loops are programmed correctly based on what they do, with the best match for equipment code, I think it should work. We're going to try to test this, but won't be able to do so until next week.
This states that the 5800combo is compatible with the Edge panel. However, 2Gig states that it is not compatible?
