What Is the Valid Address for a 4219?

Valid addresses for the 4219 are address 1 on older non-addressable panels, and addresses 7 - 11 on newer addressable panels, such as the Vista-21iP and Vista-20P. Older panels only supported a single 4219 on the system, but newer panels can support up to 5 of these devices. Each 4219 device must be set to a unique address.

Only the dip switch settings pertaining to address are shown. If the 4219 being used does not have a dip switch 6, ignore that setting. Refer to the Installation Instructions for the 4219 to determine proper setting for dip switches not shown here.

There are three separate versions of the 4219 8-zone expansion module. The original version had only 5 dip switches. These modules required the use of 1K (color code Brown, Black, Red, Gold) End of Line Resistors (EoLR). If you have one of these modules, refer to these installation instructions.

The second version of the 4219 had 8 dip switches and still required the use of End of Line Resistors, but the value of the resistor on these modules is 2K (color code Red, Black, Red, Gold). On these modules, dip switch 7 should always be set to ON. If you have one of these modules, refer to these installation instructions.

The latest iteration of the 4219 also has 8 dip switches. With this module, the use of End of Line Resistors is optional, based on the setting of dip switch 7. When dip switch 7 is ON, ALL 8 ZONES on the 4219 are normally closed and the 2K End of Line Resistor is not used. When dip switch 7 is OFF, ALL 8 ZONES on the 4219 require the use of the 2K End of Line Resistor and can be wired either Normally Open, or Normally Closed. If you have this module, refer to these installation instructions.

It can be difficult to determine if you have version 2, or version 3 of this module. If the date code on the module is 2014 or later, then you probably have the most recent version, where the use of EoLRs is optional. If your module has 8 dip switches but is older than a 2014 manufacturing date code, then you probably have version 2. The date code can be found on either a sticker or silk-screened on the printed circuit board of the module. The date code will be a letter followed by a 3-digit number. The letter indicates the year of manufacture and the number indicates which day of that year.

For example, X is the code for 2014, so a date code of X025 indicates that a module was made on the 25th day of 2014, or January 25, 2014. You can see a list of years and their corresponding letters on the Honeywell Product Repair and Warranty site. You may notice that letters for years repeat. For example, 1995 also uses the letter X to indicate the year in a date code. However, a 4219 module that was manufactured in 1995 would only have 5 dip switches, allowing you to tell the difference between one manufactured in 1995 compared to one manufactured in 2014.
