How Many Zones Does the 2GIG Edge Support?

The 2GIG Edge supports 100 wireless zones, two (2) wired zones for Normally Closed (NC) contacts, one (1) built-in glass break sensor zone, 32 key fob zones, and eight (8) keypad zones. You can access the zones from within Panel Programming. You must know the Installer Code (default 1561).

When looking at the specifications of the 2GIG Edge, you could say that it supports 100 zones, as that is how many wireless zones it supports. On a 2GIG Edge, most of the added and programmed devices will be wireless sensors. You can use wired sensors by setting them up with a wired to wireless converter, but even then, the Edge will see these wired devices as wireless sensors, and they will enroll as wireless zones. The 2GIG Edge supports wireless sensors from the 2GIG eSeries of Encrypted Sensors, the 2GIG 345 MHz Series, and non-encrypted uni-directional sensors from the Honeywell 5800 Series. Most wireless sensors will take up only one (1) wireless zone, but there are some sensors, such as the Honeywell 5800COMBO, that can use multiple wireless zones, with each wireless zone being programmed with a different Loop Number. When using sensors that have multiple possible input options, refer to the manual for that sensor for more info.

However, the zone support for the 2GIG Edge technically goes beyond those 100 wireless zones. The system also has support for two (2) wired zones. These are represented by the wired terminals found on the 2GIG Edge board. These two (2) hardwired zones can only be used with Normally Closed (NC) door and window contact sensors. They are useful if you only need to add a couple of wired contacts as part of your setup. There is also another built-in zone found in the same menu as the two hardwired zones. This built-in zone is a single internal glass break detection zone that allows the 2GIG Edge Alarm Panel itself to be used as a glass break detector. The 2GIG Edge Alarm Panel must be set up within 25 feet of any glass window that is meant to be protected by this input. It must have a direct line of sight to the glass. You must configure the built-in zone before it will be operational. It is not enabled by default.

Other zones for the 2GIG Edge include its 32 key fob zones and its eight (8) keypad zones. Each key fob zone represents an entire key fob device, not just a single key fob button input. This means that up to 32 key fob devices can be used with the 2GIG Edge, not just 32 button inputs. Compatible key fob devices for use with the 2GIG Edge include the 2GIG KEY2e-345 Encrypted Key Fob, the 2GIG KEY2-345 Key Fob, and the Honeywell 5834-4 Key Fob. Lastly, the 2GIG Edge supports eight (8) keypad zones, for a total of eight (8) external system keypads. Compatible keypads include the 2GIG Edge Remote Keypad and the 2GIG PAD1-345.

To access any of the zones for the 2GIG Edge, start from the main screen of the system, and click the small gear icon in the bottom-right corner, then enter the Installer Code (default 1561), then choose Installer Toolbox, then choose Panel Programming. You can click on Wireless Zones to access the 100 wireless zones. You can click on Built-In Zones to access the two (2) hardwired zones or the one (1) built-in glass break detection zone. You can click on Key Fobs to access the 32 key fob zones. You can click on keypads to access the eight (8) keypad zone slots.
