What Is Quick Arm for the IQ5 NS Alarm Security System?

Quick Arm on the IQ5 NS allows you to arm the security system without entering a user code. Because the IQ5 NS has no touchscreen, Quick Arm is performed through a compatible keypad or the Alarm.com app. The Secure Arming setting must be disabled for Quick Arm to work without entering a code.

Before You Begin

The IQ5 NS (available in AT&T LTE and Verizon LTE versions) has no touchscreen. All arming must be done through a compatible keypad, PowerG keyfob, or the Alarm.com app. If Secure Arming is enabled, then a code is required to arm the system. This setting is configured through the IQ Installer app. If you have not yet connected the IQ Installer app to your panel, see our guide on setting up the IQ5 NS with the IQ Installer app before proceeding.

The default Master Code is 1234 and the default Installer Code is 1111, but both should be changed during initial setup. Quick Arm is active by default on the IQ5 NS because Secure Arming is disabled out of the box. Enabling Secure Arming is required for UL/cUL certified installations.

How Quick Arm Works on the IQ5 NS

On a compatible LCD keypad, Quick Arm Away is triggered by choosing the Away option. If Secure Arming is enabled, you can bypass the code requirement by pressing [*][0] when prompted for a code. This arms the system in Away mode immediately without requiring a user code, provided Secure Arming is disabled. On an IQ Remote PG or similar keypad, pressing and holding the Stay or Away key for two seconds initiates arming in the respective mode without a code.

Quick Arm can also be initiated from the Alarm.com app. When you arm the IQ5 NS remotely through the app, authentication is handled by your Alarm.com login credentials, so no separate user code is required at the panel. This applies regardless of the Secure Arming setting since the app handles its own authentication.

Secure Arming Setting on the IQ5 NS

The Secure Arming setting on the IQ5 NS is configured through the IQ Installer app. Open the IQ Installer app on your mobile device, connect to the panel, and navigate to Installation > Security and Arming. The Secure Arming toggle controls whether a user code is required before arming. It is disabled by default, which means Quick Arm is active out of the box. Enabling Secure Arming is required for UL/cUL certified installations.

Compatible Arming Methods on the IQ5 NS

The IQ5 NS supports several arming methods. The Alarm.com app allows Stay or Away arming from any location with internet access. Compatible IQ Remote keypads including WIFI and PowerG models can be paired to the IQ5 NS for on-site arming. PowerG keyfobs such as the PG9929 and PG9939 allow one-button arming from a key ring. Each of these methods supports Quick Arm when Secure Arming is disabled. Professional monitoring is required to use the Alarm.com app for remote arming and disarming.

Stay vs. Away Arming

Quick Arm supports both Stay and Away modes on the IQ5 NS. Stay mode arms all perimeter sensors including doors and windows while leaving interior sensors inactive for occupants who remain home. Away mode arms all sensors including interior motion detectors when everyone leaves. On a keypad, pressing and holding the Stay or Away key for two seconds triggers the respective mode. The exit delay timer begins immediately after arming is initiated, giving you time to leave before the system is fully armed.
