Description
The Honeywell Lyric WIFI-Only Encrypted 10-1 Kit is great for larger homes and businesses needing a system with only WIFI connectivity. The kit includes a Honeywell Lyric Panel that is WIFI and Z-Wave ready, ten (10) SiXMINICT Sensors, one (1) SiXPIR Motion Sensor, and a Honeywell LT-Cable.
Even though it was originally released back in 2016, the Honeywell Lyric Alarm System remains one of the top options in the world of DIY security. This is a highly effective security system that offers pretty much all of the features you could ask for in terms of alarm monitoring and home automation. Not only that, but the Lyric is also very easy to use, making it a good option for new users. And experienced alarm system users also appreciate the system for features like its seven-inch (7") touchscreen controller, its clean user interface (UI), and its modern design that helps it fit in with almost any home or office setting. We particularly recommend a 10-1 system kit like this one for larger homes and small businesses.
The reason why this is called a 10-1 kit is because it has ten (10) door and window contacts and one (1) motion detection sensor. All of the sensors included with this kit are encrypted peripherals from the Honeywell SiX Series. These sensors feature military-grade 128-bit AES encryption for the ultimate wireless protection and security, and they also boast an impressive signal range of more than 300 feet. The ten (10) door and window sensors are Honeywell SiXMINICT Sensors. These surface-mounted devices are known for their super slim and sleek profile that has them appear to almost vanish when installed on a flat white surface. Meanwhile, the motion detector is a Honeywell SiXPIR. This sensor has a detection area of 40 feet by 56 feet when it is installed at its optimal mounting height of 7 feet 6 inches. It also offers optional pet immunity, which can be toggled ON and OFF within programming. When the feature is enabled and the sensor is mounted properly, small animals weighing less than 80 lbs should pass beneath the sensor's coverage area and avoid setting it off.
Another great aspect of the Lyric is that it has plenty of room for expansion. The system has 128 wireless zones, and it is ready to support encrypted Honeywell SiX Sensors. It also offers backwards compatibility with non-encrypted 345 MHz sensors from the Honeywell 5800 Series and the 2GIG 345 MHz Series. Being able to choose from all of these sensor lineups really makes it possible to design the perfect alarm system for your needs. After you get the sensors programmed with the system, then you need to activate it for monitoring service. This kit has everything you need for IP-only monitoring. But if you want, you can always add a cellular communicator later and make the system dual-path. A cellular communicator will provide a second communication path for the system, and it will keep the system monitored in the event that the internet goes out. The two (2) LTE cellular communicators available for the Lyric are the Honeywell LYRICLTE-A and the Honeywell LYRICLTE-V. You might also consider getting one of our Lyric System Kits that include a cellular communicator. Remember though that adding a cellular communicator will require a more expensive cellular alarm monitoring plan. But as it stands, cellular connectivity is optional, and you can activate the system for IP-only if you don't want to pay extra for cellular. One thing to keep in mind though is that the Lyric can only connect with 2.4 GHz WIFI networks. The system cannot be used with 5 GHz networks.
When the Lyric System is monitored, it communicates with the Resideo AlarmNet Servers. The system sends alerts and notifications to the AlarmNet Servers, and AlarmNet forwards them to a central station and/or to you directly via text and/or email, depending on the monitoring plan that you signed up for. In order to receive notifications directly via text and/or email, you should consider getting a monitoring plan that includes access to Total Connect 2.0. This is an interactive platform that you can use to control your system remotely through a web browser or a mobile app on your smartphone. By accessing TC2, you can arm and disarm, check current system status, control automation devices, view the live feed for your TC2 Security Cameras, where applicable and more.
There is one downside to Total Connect 2.0 though. Once the Lyric System is set up with Total Connect 2.0, the system loses its ability for local scene programming. This happens even if the TC2 service plan does not include automation. The only way you can use local scenes with the Lyric after it has been set up with TC2 is to create the local smart scenes before the TC2 account is set up. To build the local scenes, you will need to pair all the necessary automation devices with the Lyric and then actually go through the scene creation steps before activating the Total Connect 2.0 account. Keep in mind though that if your TC2 service includes automation, then even though you lose the ability to program scenes at the panel locally, you will be able to build smart scenes remotely through Total Connect 2.0.
The automation offerings from the Honeywell Lyric are actually quite impressive. The system has a built-in Z-Wave controller, which allows you to pair a wide selection of devices like smart lights, door locks, thermostats, and more. Paired devices can be operated locally at the Lyric Panel or remotely from TC2 if the system is monitored with a plan that includes automation. Smart scenes will allow your automation devices to activate automatically based on a set schedule or with predetermined system events. But again, local scene creation will be lost once the Lyric is set up with a TC2 account. We also want to mention that the Honeywell Lyric offers very robust integration with Apple HomeKit. This integration provides the ability to create HomeKit Automations that involve the Lyric and other HomeKit-compatible devices. You can have your paired HomeKit devices respond automatically to system events, and you can also control your Lyric System using spoken Siri Voice Commands through Apple HomeKit. This is an outstanding feature, and you really should make sure to take full advantage of it if you are a dedicated iOS user. But note that the Lyric does not support HomeKit when it is first out of the box, and you must have your monitoring provider enable the HomeKit feature after the system is set up for monitoring.
We have also included a Honeywell LT-Cable with this kit for connecting the Lyric Panel with its included transformer. Additionally, all of the necessary wall-mounting hardware comes bundled with the Lyric. But if you don't want to wall-mount the Lyric, or if you are unable to for whatever reason, then you may instead consider separately purchasing the Honeywell LCP500-DK Lyric Controller Desk Stand. This table stand will let you complete the whole system installation using nothing more than a screwdriver. It is also a very sturdy stand, and it does a great job of keeping the system positioned upright.
