How Can I Disarm the IQ5 NS Home Security Alarm System?

To disarm the IQ5 NS, use the Alarm.com app on your mobile device and touch the disarm icon, or press the disarm button on a paired PowerG key fob. You can also configure Bluetooth touchless disarming through the IQ Installer app. The IQ5 NS does not have a touchscreen for manual disarming.

Before You Begin

The IQ5 NS (available in AT&T LTE and Verizon LTE versions) does not have a touchscreen, so it cannot be disarmed by entering a code directly at the panel. Instead, the IQ5 NS relies on remote methods: the Alarm.com app, compatible key fobs, and Bluetooth touchless disarming. Make sure the Alarm.com app is installed on your smartphone and that everyone in your household has a valid user code. If you have not yet connected the IQ Installer app to your panel, see our guide on setting up the IQ5 NS with the IQ Installer app before proceeding.

The default Master Code is 1234 and the default Installer Code is 1111, but both should be changed during setup. The IQ5 NS works with PowerG sensors, Z-Wave devices, and Bluetooth accessories as part of a complete security system platform. All configuration is performed through the IQ Installer app on your mobile device.

Disarming Remotely with the Alarm.com App

Remote disarming is the primary method for the IQ5 NS. Open the Alarm.com app on your smartphone and touch the disarm icon. The panel must be connected to a monitoring service plan with remote access for this feature to work. The app is available for iOS and Android and gives you full control of your system from anywhere. This is useful if a family member arrives home and needs to disarm, or if you need to let in a service provider remotely. Remote disarming has not been evaluated by UL/cUL.

Disarming with a Key Fob

A compatible PowerG key fob provides one-button disarming for your IQ5 NS, which is especially useful since the panel has no touchscreen. Simply press the disarm button on the fob. Key fob disarming is enabled by default in the Security and Arming settings. The Keyfob Alarm Disarm setting, which allows a key fob to stop an active alarm, is disabled by default and must be enabled separately through the IQ Installer app if desired.

Setting Up Bluetooth Touchless Disarming

Bluetooth touchless disarming automatically disarms your IQ5 NS when your paired smartphone comes within range. This works only in Armed Away mode after the Bluetooth disarm timeout has passed (default 10 minutes). You can connect up to five smartphones. To configure this feature:

  1. Open the IQ Installer app on your mobile device and connect to the IQ5 NS panel. Make sure your device is on the same WIFI network as the panel.
  2. Navigate to Bluetooth Devices in the app menu. The Bluetooth page appears showing any currently paired devices.
  3. Select Add Phone to begin pairing. The panel starts scanning for nearby Bluetooth devices. Make sure your smartphone's Bluetooth is turned on and discoverable.
  4. Select your smartphone from the list of discovered devices. A pairing confirmation appears on both your phone and in the app with a numeric code.
  5. Verify the codes match on both devices, then confirm the pairing on each. Your phone appears in the Paired Devices list.
  6. Choose whether the paired device can disarm the panel and assign it to a partition if partitions are enabled. These options can be adjusted later by editing the device.

The default Bluetooth disarm timeout is 10 minutes, adjustable to 1, 5, 20, or 30 minutes in the Bluetooth Settings page. This page also lets you enable or disable the Bluetooth radio and the disarm feature globally.

Disarming During an Active Alarm

If an alarm is triggered, the IQ5 NS sounds the siren. Use the Alarm.com app to disarm or press the disarm button on a paired key fob. If your system uses a monitoring service, the panel automatically contacts your monitoring center through its dual-path LTE and WIFI connection. Be ready to provide your verbal password if the monitoring agent calls. The Keyfob Alarm Disarm setting must be enabled if you want a key fob to stop an active alarm.

Tips for Preventing False Alarms

False alarms waste public safety resources and can result in fines in some areas. Make sure the Alarm.com app is installed on the smartphones of everyone who needs to disarm, and keep key fobs accessible near entry doors. Set entry doors to use an appropriate entry delay (default 30 seconds) to give you time to disarm after opening the door. Consider pairing multiple phones for Bluetooth disarming as a backup. Integrating your panel with home automation features like smart locks can further streamline your routine.
