How Can I Disarm the IQ5 NS Home Security Alarm System?

To disarm the IQ5 NS, use the Alarm.com app on your mobile device and touch the disarm icon, or press the disarm button on a paired PowerG key fob. You can also configure Bluetooth touchless disarming through the IQ Installer app. The IQ5 NS does not have a touchscreen for manual disarming.

Before You Begin

The IQ5 NS (available in AT&T LTE and Verizon LTE versions) does not have a touchscreen, so it cannot be disarmed by entering a code directly at the panel. Instead, the IQ5 NS relies on remote methods: the Alarm.com app, compatible key fobs, remote touchscreen keypads, and Bluetooth touchless disarming. Make sure the Alarm.com app is installed on your smartphone and that everyone in your household has a valid user code. If you have not yet connected the IQ Installer app to your panel, see our guide on setting up the IQ5 NS with the IQ Installer app before proceeding.

The default Master Code is 1234 and the default Installer Code is 1111, but both should be changed during setup. In fact, the first time you connect to the panel using the installer app, you will be required to change the Installer Code. The IQ5 NS works with PowerG sensors, Z-Wave devices, and Bluetooth accessories as part of a complete security system platform. All configuration is performed through the IQ Installer app on your mobile device.

Disarming Using a Whole Home Automation System

The IQ5 NS has no built-in touchscreen, which makes it a popular fit for high-end whole-home automation systems like Control4, Savant, or others. Used this way, the panel functions almost like a hidden hub. It can sit out of sight in a closet, monitoring your security peripherals, arming and disarming through automation or the automation system's own touchscreen keypad, and reporting device status back to the automation controller so it can trigger automation routines for other devices.

For example, you may create an automation rule that says when the living room motion is faulted (meaning the system is disarmed) the living room lights turn on at 75% brightness. Or, when the entry delay begins, meaning you've just entered, the entryway lights turn on for X minutes. For help setting up the panel with Control4, see this FAQ. For any other whole-home automation system, check with that system's manufacturer or integrator for setup instructions.

Disarming Remotely With The Alarm.com App

Remote disarming is the primary method for the IQ5 NS. Open the Alarm.com app on your smartphone and touch the disarm icon. The panel must be connected to a monitoring service plan with remote access for this feature to work. The app is available for iOS and Android and gives you full control of your system from anywhere. This is useful if a family member arrives home and needs to disarm, or if you need to let in a service provider remotely. Remote disarming has not been evaluated by UL/cUL.

Disarming with a Key Fob

A compatible PowerG key fob provides one-button disarming for your IQ5 NS, which is especially useful since the panel has no touchscreen. Simply press the disarm button on the fob. Key fob disarming is enabled by default in the Security and Arming settings. The Keyfob Alarm Disarm setting, which allows a key fob to stop an active alarm, is disabled by default and must be enabled separately through the IQ Installer app if desired.

Disarm Using Bluetooth Touchless Disarming

Bluetooth Touchless Disarming automatically disarms the IQ5 NS when a paired smartphone comes within range. This works only in Armed Away mode after the Bluetooth disarm timeout has passed. You can connect up to five smartphones. To set up Bluetooth Touchless Disarming, check out this helpful FAQ. The default Bluetooth disarm timeout is 10 minutes, adjustable to 1, 5, 10, 20, or 30 minutes in the Bluetooth Settings page. This page also lets you enable or disable the Bluetooth transceiver and the Bluetooth disarm feature globally.

Disarming Using a Remote Touchscreen Keypad

The IQ Remote PG is a 7" wireless touchscreen keypad that pairs with your IQ panel using either WIFI or the PowerG protocol, giving you a local screen and full arm/disarm control even when the primary panel doesn't have one. You can pair up to three IQ Remote PG units to a single system, and each one enrolls as its own "Keypad" sensor type, appearing in your zone list just like any other device.

Because the IQ5 NS has no built-in display, an IQ Remote PG gives you back that local touchscreen experience for disarming. Once paired, you can disarm the system directly from the IQ Remote's screen rather than relying solely on the IQ Installer app, a key fob, or the Alarm.com app. This also satisfies the requirement for UL-listed installations, which call for a local arming/disarming method such as the IQ Remote PG.

Disarming During an Active Alarm

If an alarm is triggered, the IQ5 NS sounds the siren. Use the Alarm.com app to disarm or press the disarm button on a paired key fob. If your system uses a monitoring service, the panel automatically contacts your monitoring center through its dual-path LTE and WIFI connection. Be ready to provide your verbal password if the monitoring agent calls.

Please note, the panel has a setting "Keyfob Alarm Disarm," located by tapping the gray bar at the top of the screen then tapping Settings > Advanced Settings > Enter Installer Code (default is 1111) > Installation > Security and Arming. By default, this setting is disabled. If you need to use a key fob to disarm when the system is in alarm, be sure to enable (via checkmark) this setting.

Tips for Preventing False Alarms

False alarms waste public safety resources and can result in fines in some areas. Make sure the Alarm.com app is installed on the smartphones of everyone who needs to disarm. Set entry doors to use an appropriate entry delay (default 30 seconds) to give you time to disarm after opening the door. Consider pairing multiple phones for Bluetooth disarming as a backup. Integrating your panel with home automation features like smart locks can further streamline your routine.

Disarming your IQ5 NS is simple with multiple remote options designed for a screenless panel. For help with disarming or other configurations on your IQ5 NS, contact the Alarm Grid support team.
