Alarm.com has announced that some of their most popular security cameras will soon be receiving important over-the-air (OTA) firmware updates. The models receiving firmware updates include the ADC-V523 Indoor Camera, the ADC-V723 Outdoor Camera, and the ADC-VDB770 Doorbell Camera.


End users will not need to take any special action to receive the automatic firmware updates. The updates will be pushed down to the cameras from the Alarm.com servers throughout the coming weeks. As long as the device is online and connected with Alarm.com, then it should receive the update successfully.

The ADC-V523 Indoor Camera and the ADC-V723 Outdoor Camera are both receiving Firmware Upgrade Version 0.6.1.151. The update will provide support for the recently released Onboard Recording Schedules Feature. Users can also expect general stability fixes and device performance improvements.

The Alarm.com ADC-VDB770 is receiving Firmware Upgrade Version 02088. As the Alarm.com Doorbell Camera was only released a couple of months ago, this is believed to be the first significant firmware update for the device. The update will primarily focus on improving WIFI connectivity and overall network stability for the doorbell camera. Users should notice fewer streaming disruptions as a result.

Today, in this final part of our 2020 holiday buying guides, we will be checking out various accessories for the Honeywell Lyric, the Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus, and the 2GIG GC3e. Specifically, we will be looking at compatible cellular communicators, security cameras, keypads, and desk mounts.


Adding various accessories to your system can improve your overall experience and make your system easier to use. Most accessories are optional, though there some that are required for setting up new monitoring service. We'll be sure to discuss these factors along the way. The other very important thing to keep in mind is that compatibility is usually based on system. Check and make sure that any accessory you want works with your system.


Cellular Communicators

We'll start by looking at cellular communicators for our top alarm panels. All of our top security system picks have built-in WIFI for communicating right out of the box. But only the Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus comes with a built-in cellular communication module. For the Lyric and the GC3e, you must add a cellular radio if you want one of these systems to use a cellular communication pathway. Keep in mind that this is optional for Total Connect 2.0 Systems like the Lyric, as TC2 allows system to be set up with IP-only service. But for Alarm.com Systems, having an active cellular communication set up is required. This means that you must buy a cellular communicator for a 2GIG GC3e to get it monitored. Keep in mind that using cellular communication on any system will require a monitoring plan that includes cellular service, such as an Alarm Grid Gold or Platinum Level Plan.

A good thing about the cellular communicators listed here is that they are all LTE communicators. The term LTE stands for "long-term evolution", and the associated networks and cell towers are expected to be kept running and in-service for a very long time. This will remain true even as 5G networks are rolled out, as LTE is positioned to serve as a valuable and reliable backup option to 5G. At this time (December 2020), 5G communicators for alarm systems do not yet exist. This makes LTE far and away the best option for cellular communication on alarm systems at this time.

You will notice that there are no cellular communicators listed here for the IQ Panel 2 Plus. This is because the IQ Panel 2 Plus comes with a cellular communicator that is pre-installed. It cannot be removed or replaced. This means that the entire panel must be replaced in the event that its cellular radio fails. You will also see that carrier options for AT&T and Verizon are listed here. You should simply go with whichever carrier provides better service in the area where the system will be used. You can also check coverage maps if you are unsure. Remember, this choice will have no impact on your monthly monitoring costs, and it has nothing to do with the carrier for your personal phone. And just to restate it one last time, this is required for the GC3e, and optional for the Lyric.

Security Cameras

Next, we will be taking a look at various security camera options for your system. Broadly speaking, these devices can be split into two (2) categories. There are security cameras for Alarm.com and security cameras for Total Connect 2.0. If you are building around a Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus or 2GIG GC3e, then you will want to get Alarm.com Security Cameras. But if you are building around the Honeywell Lyric, then you should get Total Connect 2.0 cameras. Remember that using any camera will require a monitoring plan that includes video surveillance, such as an Alarm Grid Platinum Level Plan. The only exception is for a SkyBell Video Doorbell, which we will be discussing later.

The cameras listed here are all IP cameras, meaning that they connect to the internet for remote access. You can use the Alarm.com Mobile App or the Total Connect 2.0 Mobile App to get a live look-in for your camera from pretty much anywhere in the world. Most cameras connect across wireless WIFI, but some use wired ethernet connectivity. For those using wired ethernet, you will often see them listed as Power over Ethernet, or PoE. This means that the camera can get both power and network connectivity from the same connection. Cameras that use WIFI will typically just have a plug-in transformer for power.

Let's start by exploring the Alarm.com Cameras. These are what you want if you are building around an IQ Panel 2 Plus, a 2GIG GC3e, or any other Alarm.com Security System.

Lastly, we want to give special recognition to the SkyBell Doorbell Cameras. These camera replace your existing doorbell, and you can receive push notifications on your phone when someone rings your doorbell. They can also begin recording upon detecting movement, making them ideal for monitoring the front of your home. What's also unique about these cameras is they do not require true video monitoring service. Up to five (5) can be added on a TC2 account, while those with ADC can only use one (1), unless they upgrade to a true video monitoring plan. Make sure to use one designed for TC2 or ADC depending on the interactive platform you are using. Please note that only the TC2 version can be used with the native SkyBell App. You cannot use the SkyBell App with the ADC models.

Alarm Keypads


Our next topic concerns alarm keypads. These devices serve as a secondary on-site controller for your system. Some of these are very basic devices that are only useful for minimal system arming and disarming and showing status. Others offer complete touchscreen displays and allow you to perform a robust selection of security and automation commands. The important thing to pay attention to here is compatibility. Each keypad listed here will only work with the system that it is intended to be used with.

Some common locations for secondary alarm system keypads are near back doors or garage doors, as a user might want to arm and disarm from those locations as they are coming and going, without needing to go all the way to their primary alarm panel. They are also popular for use in master bedrooms, as having a keypad by your bedside can be a convenient way to call for help in the event that you hear someone breaking into your home.

These devices are often preferred by DIY users who don't want to drill holes in the wall. They are also great for renters who have restrictions on drilling holes.

Of our top security system picks, only the Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus comes with a desk mount included. However, the included desk mount is relatively small and flimsy. There is actually a more robust desk mount for the IQ Panel 2 Plus, which is included on this list. Using a proper desk mount makes it possible to perform a complete system installation with nothing more than a screwdriver in many cases.

Alarm.com is back again for the holiday season, as users will once again be able to have Santa appear in screenshots for their Alarm.com Security Cameras. This feature is great for sharing with young family members, as well as for as anyone who loves Christmas and wants to get in the spirit.


The "Santa Security" feature is available on both the Alarm.com website and mobile app. If you are using, the Alarm.com Mobile App, then you may want to verify that you are using a high enough version. For iOS users, Version 4.17 or higher is needed. Android users need at least Version 4.15.1. Remember you can download the app for free from either the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store. And of course, you will need a monitoring plan that includes access to Alarm.com for video surveillance, such as an Alarm Grid Platinum Plan.

To get started, just open the Alarm.com website or mobile app, and then enter the Cameras Menu. Select the video feed for one of your compatible cameras, and then click on the icon of Santa. You can select from a few different Santa images to insert into your camera's screenshot. The Santa image you select can be positioned wherever you like, and you can also resize the Santa image to better fit the setting. Then all you have to do is download the altered picture and share it with your friends and family to show them that Santa visited!

Of course, this isn't capturing the real Santa on your Alarm.com Security Cameras. Santa is much too fast for that, so it won't work if you try to get video of the real Kris Kringle himself. But this is certainly a nice alternative. The feature will be available from December 7th through December 31st. That should give you plenty of time to produce a Santa image to show your kids, loved ones, and anyone else who loves Christmas. No special sign-up is required. All you need is a compatible Alarm.com Camera and a video monitoring plan.

We actually missed this about a month ago, but it appears Alarm.com has updated their website camera video feed viewer to use native browser streaming. This replaces the old Adobe Flash video viewer. This change does not come as a surprise, as Adobe Flash will soon reach its end of life.


Being able to live-stream the video feed for Alarm.com Security Cameras is one of the most important features of these devices. This can be done using the Alarm.com website or the mobile app. The change being discussed here affects streaming through a web browser and the Alarm.com website. Before, it was only possible to stream Alarm.com Cameras on the website by using the Adobe Flash video viewer. The update provides support for native browser streaming. This will make it easier for most viewers to access their camera feeds.

With Adobe Flash reaching its end of life by the end of the year, this update was basically a no-brainer for Alarm.com. Users will still have the ability to view their cameras using Adobe Flash until the end of the year. At that point, only native browser streaming will be supported for camera streaming through the Alarm.com website. Native browser streaming is easier to maintain, and it does not require users to install and update a Flash plug-in. Native browser streaming support was actually made available towards the end of September, but we never covered the news in our blog prior to now.

When you access your Alarm.com account through the website, the Video section will appear on the left if Video Surveillance has been added to your account. By clicking on this section then Live Video, you will be able to choose a camera for streaming. In the upper-right corner there will be a toggle bar for you to enable or disable the "New Viewer. When the bar is blue, the New Viewer is enabled, and native browser streaming will be used. This is the default option. You can click the toggle bar to turn off the New Viewer and use Adobe Flash streaming. This will only be available until the end of the year. After that, no Flash streaming will be available.


Please note that the New Viewer and native browser streaming only allows the live video stream to be maintained for a few minutes at a time. After that, you will get a message that the stream has "timed out". You will need to refresh the stream to resume viewing. This is normal, and it's just a limitation that comes with Alarm.com Camera streaming. Simply click the "Play" button that appears on the screen to refresh the stream and continue watching.

Also note that while the camera viewer now has native browser streaming available, the streaming video recorder (SVR) timeline page still uses Adobe Flash. Native browser streaming is not yet available for SVR functions on the Alarm.com website. We expect that to change in the near future, as Alarm.com continues to make their transition away from Flash. We do not have an ETA on when that will become available, but we will be sure to provide an update once we learn more.

Update July 13, 2020: There has been a delay in the release of the update. We are hopeful that it will be made available soon. Stay tuned for further updates and information.

Update July 23, 2020: The update now appears to be available.

A new Alarm.com Mobile App update, Version 4.13.1 should be made available in the coming days. This comes approximately a month after the previous update. The update will be available for free download from both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. We recommend downloading ASAP.


There are a few minor new inclusions with Alarm.com Mobile App Version 4.13.1. For one, customers enrolled in any cost-saving Give Back, Get Back demand response programs for smart thermostats will be able to know more easily when such energy-saving events are taking place. Alarm Grid has discussed these cost-saving programs before. In particular, we have posted about the demand response program for Baltimore Gas & Electric, as well as one for LADWP. We recommend checking with your local power supplier to see if any similar programs are available for you.

Another change is that iOS users with video monitoring service will now be able to swipe down with two fingers to quickly select multiple saved video clips at once. This is done conveniently from the Video and Doorbells Menu screen. Meanwhile, Android users are also getting their own update that makes their experience when adding a new video device identical to that of the Alarm.com iOS platform. Users will need to update the WIFI settings for the Android device outside of the ADC App to find the WIFI network for the video device.

Lastly, the update includes some bug fixes and some general minor enhancements for both Android and iOS versions. This should result in a smoother experience overall. Like we said, the update, Version 4.13.1, should be made available in the coming days. Alarm.com is best known as an interactive service platform used with security systems. These systems communicate with Alarm.com so that alerts can be sent out to a central station and/or directly to an end user, depending on their monitoring service plan. A user can integrate special Alarm.com Cameras with their Alarm.com network so that the cameras respond based on activity on their security system. It is also possible to have Alarm.com Cameras without actually owning or using a security system.

An end user can view the live-streams for their Alarm.com Security Cameras through both the Alarm.com Mobile App and the Alarm.com Website. The mobile app is particularly convenient, as it can be used from pretty much anywhere in the world, as long as the user's phone can connect to the network. Whether you are across the street or across the planet, you can know exactly what is going on inside or around your home or business!

If you have or are considering purchasing a security system that uses Alarm.com, then in order to integrate Alarm.com Cameras you must upgrade to an alarm monitoring plan that includes the Alarm.com Video Surveillance Add-On. Examples of compatible plans are the Platinum Level Plans from Alarm Grid. Both our Self-Platinum Plan and our Central Station Platinum Plan will support Alarm.com Cameras. If you don't have a security system, and you just want to build a network of Alarm.com Security Cameras, then you may consider our $15 Per Month Video Monitoring Plan.

There is one exception in which an Alarm.com Camera can be used on an Alarm.com account without the Alarm.com Video Surveillance Add-On. If a user does not have true video monitoring service for their ADC account, they can still add a single (1) Alarm.com SkyBell Video Doorbell. The user will be restricted to 400 clips per month. More information on using an Alarm.com SkyBell without a video monitoring account can be found here. Please note that you must use a SkyBell model designated for use with Alarm.com. Other SkyBell models will not work with Alarm.com. Never try to pair an Alarm.com SkyBell with the SkyBell App or with another interactive service platform like Total Connect 2.0. Doing so may result in the device being unusable with Alarm.com.

Before exploring cameras, it is important to understand how Alarm.com Clip Recording Limits work. Understanding this will prevent you from exceeding your allotted number of video clips and ensure that you can always save an important clip. The clip limit is also associated with the camera limit, which refers to how many cameras can be added to an Alarm.com Video Monitoring Account. One feature that you will often come across when looking at Alarm.com Video Cameras is the Alarm.com Video Analytics Feature. This is a powerful feature that will really improve your end user experience and allow you to easily tailor how your cameras are used. We highly recommend the feature, and we are huge fans of it ourselves. Alarm Grid provides Alarm.com Video Analytics at no extra cost for anyone who has a Platinum Level Plan or our Video-Only Plan. Depending on the camera, it will connect with your IP network through either local WIFI or a wired ethernet connection. Some Alarm.com Cameras using ethernet can be configured for Power over Ethernet (PoE), which prevents you from needing to run an extra wire to the camera for electrical power. Other cameras will use a plug-in AC adapter for power. As a loose rule, most of the cameras designed for residential use will use their own AC adapter and connect wirelessly to a WIFI network, while a commercial camera is more likely to use wired ethernet with PoE capability. Please note that if the IP router does not support PoE functionality, then a PoE injector will be needed. One example of a PoE injector is the Alarm.com ADC-POE-INJ.

It's also worth mentioning that many Alarm.com Security Cameras can be live-streamed directly from a Qolsys IQ Panel 2 System, as well as any IQ Remote Keypad used with the system. This is great news for anyone who happens to own a Qolsys IQ Panel 2 or IQ Panel 2 Plus. Alarm.com ADC-V523




The Alarm.com ADC-V523 is arguably the most popular Alarm.com Security Camera right now, and for good reason. It is both affordable and compact, and it provides some of the best recording capabilities we have ever seen in a DIY-friendly security camera with its 1080p recording quality and High Dynamic Range (HDR). It offers IR night vision for up to 15 feet, making it perfect for residential or light commercial use. The camera is compatible with Alarm.com Video Analytics, and it has an impressive 117-degree field of view. It is for indoor use only. The camera can be hard mounted if desired (hardware included), but it is also great for resting on a table.

Alarm.com ADC-V723




The Alarm.com ADC-V723 is the outdoor equivalent to the ADC-V523. Just like the ADC-V523, it is extremely popular, and the fact that it can be used outdoors makes it excellent for both businesses and home use. It connects to the network via WIFI, and it offers 1080p recording capabilities with High Dynamic Range (HDR) and a 117-degree field of view. It features an ingress weather protection rating of IP66 and IR night vision of up to 40 feet. Alarm.com Video Analytics is also supported by the ADC-V723.


Alarm.com ADC-V622-WELL


The Alarm.com ADC-V622-WELL was designed as a wellness camera for monitoring a loved one. But really, it can be an effective security camera as well. Its design allows it to be mounted if desired, but it is more commonly just placed on top of a table, desk, or nightstand for monitoring. On the top of the camera is a call button that an end user can use to let a loved one know that they need assistance. This is done through an Alarm.com Notification. Both WIFI and ethernet with POE can be used with the ADC-V622-WELL. A Bluetooth speaker is built into the camera, and it offers IR night vision for capturing video at night.

Alarm.com SkyBell Video Doorbells are extremely popular, as they are great for monitoring the area around your door, and you can use one without having true Alarm.com Video Monitoring Service. These devices are great for nabbing package thieves and for seeing exactly who is at the door when someone rings the doorbell. Users have set up video doorbells to capture all sorts of activity in front of their homes, and you can easily get alerts from Alarm.com. A round model is available (ADC-VDB101 & ADC-VDB102), as well as a rectangular Slim-Line model (ADC-VDB105 & ADC-VDB106).

Bullet Cameras like the ADC-VC726 and the ADC-VC736, and Dome Cameras like the ADC-VC826 are popular for businesses who want their cameras to give a more intimidating presence. These cameras are all suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, and they support POE to make installation easier. The Alarm.com Commercial Cameras are known for having impressive IR night vision ratings (in most cases ~95 feet) and receiving really high scores for ingress (weather) protection. However, they tend to have smaller viewing angles than their residential counterparts. These are the cameras you will likely encounter at a bank, grocery store, or other commercial establishment. They can be very useful if you need an outdoor security camera to cover across a large area and record reliably in the darkest of nighttime settings.


Stream Video Recorders (SVRs)

We couldn't talk about the Alarm.com Cameras without at least mentioning the Alarm.com Stream Video Recorders. The Alarm.com SVR devices are used to store video clips. Any video clip on an SVR device can be accessed locally at the SVR or remotely through Alarm.com. Using one of these devices is necessary if you want to set up recording on a continuous schedule, including a constant 24-hour recording schedule. Otherwise, your cameras will only record when triggered (via audio/visual or system activity). If you want your Alarm.com Cameras recording on a set schedule, then an SVR device is an absolute must. There is a residential model called the ADC-SVR122 (available in 500 GB, 1 TB, and 2 TB options), and a commercial model called the ADC-CSVR126 (available in 2 TB and 12 TB models, with expansion of up to 16 TB).

The main thing you should consider when choosing cameras for an existing system is to think about which alarm panel you have. Your alarm panel, by extension, determines which interactive service platform you use. Most Alarm Grid monitored customers use either Total Connect 2.0 or Alarm.com. If you have a Honeywell Security System, then you most likely use Total Connect 2.0. If you have Alarm Grid monitoring service using a panel from a different manufacturer, such as Qolsys, 2GIG, or DSC, then you most likely use Alarm.com.

Both Total Connect 2.0 and Alarm.com have their own selection of cameras to choose from. Total Connect 2.0 keeps things simple with just three (3) cameras to choose from as of April 2020. These cameras are the Honeywell IPCAM-WIC1, the Honeywell IPCAM-WIC2, and the Honeywell IPCAM-WOC1. Alarm.com seems to release updated models more frequently, as they continue to update their camera lineup. At this time some of our favorite Alarm.com Camera Models include the Alarm.com ADC-V522IR, the Alarm.com ADC-V622-WELL, and the Alarm.com ADC-V723.

Once you know which camera lineup to choose from, there are many factors for you to consider when deciding which camera to buy. Some of these factors include whether the camera is for indoor or outdoor use, the recording quality of the camera, the camera's viewing angle, and how much money you would like to spend. Since Honeywell only has three cameras currently on the market, it's usually pretty cut and dry which one is best for your needs. With Alarm.com, there are more options to consider.

Whether you are using TC2 or ADC, you can view the live feed for your camera remotely from anywhere in the world using an app on your phone. You can also set a camera to begin recording, whenever activity occurs on your system. For example, if someone faults an Entry/Exit Zone and triggers an Entry Delay countdown, then you can have your camera record all the action. Usually, it will just the routine activity of an authorized individual arming the system, but you will be ready if anyone tries to make an unauthorized entry into your home or business. And you can set your cameras for all sorts of triggers, included faulted sensors, system alarms, at certain times of day, and more.

Remember that you will need a monitoring plan that includes video surveillance to use security cameras. We're starting off this list with the Alarm.com ADC-V523. This is an excellent residential camera that you can mount on a wall or ceiling or rest on a desk or table. It is highly regarded for its 1080p picture quality. its use of High Dynamic Range (HDR), and its 117° field of view. The camera also utilizes IR night vision with a range of 15 feet. This means that it can reliably record an intrusion that may occur in the middle of the night. It supports connectivity across a 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz WIFI network, or it can use hardwired ethernet. This is truly the go-to Qolsys Camera if you are just looking for a simple, yet effective camera to use indoors.


Alarm.com ADC-V622-WELL

The Alarm.com ADC-V622-WELL was designed with the Alarm.com Wellness Platform in mind. But it's such an effective and useful camera, that it can really be used nicely in any residential location. This indoor camera can technically be mounted, but its design makes it quite appealing to just rest and leave on a desk. Features for the ADC-V622 include live video & audio streaming, 1080p recording, two-way voice functionality, power over ethernet (PoE), a built-in Bluetooth speaker, IR night vision (15 feet), a built-in call button, and an incredible 180° viewing angle. Alarm.com ADC-V723

Residential Qolsys users looking for an outdoor camera can turn to the Alarm.com ADC-V723. This is a 1080p outdoor camera with an IP66 weather protection rating. It is very similar to the ADC-V523 we mentioned earlier. The difference is that this one is built to withstand the elements of an outdoor environment, including rain, wind, dust, heavy sunlight, and more. The camera retains the same 1080p recording capabilities and High Dynamic Range (HDR) of the ADC-V523. It also offers a further IR night range distance (~40 feet) to better capture activity that occurs in the middle of the night. Please note that you cannot use a wired ethernet connection with this IP camera. It must be set up with a 2.4 GHz or a 5 GHz WIFI connection.


Alarm.com ADC-VC726

The Alarm.com ADC-VC726 is where Alarm.com starts to bridge the gap between residential and commercial grade cameras. This is a mini bullet camera that measures 6.1" long and 2.76" wide. While you normally see these "bullet-style" cameras in commercial locations, this camera is so small that it can fit in very nicely outside a home. The camera was built for outdoor use with its IP67 protection rating, but it can certainly be used indoors as well. It offers 1080p recording, an 86° viewing angle, and an IR night vision range of ~95 feet. The camera must use a wired ethernet connection, and it supports PoE. It is extremely versatile and can really be used for almost any application.

Commercial Qolsys users typically consider the Alarm.com ADC-VC736 as the go-to outdoor camera option. This is the largest of the cameras listed here, and it really packs some power. It has 1080p recording capabilities, an IP67 weather protection rating, an IR night vision range of about 260 feet, and an 86° viewing angle. The camera measures in at 11.8" long and 4.1" tall, meaning that it's not exactly the most discreet camera out there. But if you need something large and powerful for monitoring the outside of your business, then the Alarm.com ADC-VC736 is a tremendous choice to use with your IQ Panel 2 Plus.

The Alarm.com ADC-VC826 Dome Camera is another model that blurs the line between residential and commercial. You normally associate dome cameras with commercial use, but the ADC-VC826 is small enough that you might not mind having it around your home. Its dimensions are just 4.4"D x 3.2"L, so you will have no problem fitting it in a tight space. And you can feel confident using this Qolsys-compatible camera outdoors with its IP67 protection rating. Other features include 1080p recording, a 108° viewing angle, an IR night vision range of ~95 feet, pan/tilt capabilities, and a vandal-resistant exterior. The camera must use a wired ethernet connection for network access, but it does support power over ethernet (PoE).


Alarm.com ADC-VC836

This is a camera that you can certainly trust to monitor your business and keep an eye out for any suspicious or unwanted activity. It is protected against environmental elements with its IP67 rating. You will also appreciate the camera's modest size at just 5"D x 3.8"L. And with its tamper resistant exterior, nobody is going to disable the ADC-VC836 and break into your business without you knowing about it!

Alarm.com users now have a new feature at their disposal, as a special full-screen two-camera mode has been added to the Live Video page on the Alarm.com customer website. By accessing your Alarm.com account through the website, you can take advantage of this all-new viewing experience.


As you can see from the picture above, we have already tested this new feature to great success. We tested the dual-camera full-screen viewing option using the Alarm.com ADC-V723 Outdoor Camera (the top picture) and the Alarm.com ADC-V522IR Indoor Camera (the bottom picture). Both of these Alarm.com Security Cameras support the robust and powerful Alarm.com Video Analytics package. Although we don't believe that ADC Video Analytics is a requirement for using full-screen two-camera mode, we still highly recommend getting ADC Cameras with Video Analytics support because its tremendous benefits.

The new two-camera mode allows both displayed cameras to be live-streamed in HD quality, without any sacrifice or compromise in terms of picture. This is the perfect feature if you are wanting to monitor two cameras in your home or business at the same time. Additionally, Alarm.com has retained its other viewing modes, including 2x2, 1+3, full-screen, and theater modes. And of course, you can still set a single camera to its own exclusive full-screen if desired. But it's nice to see Alarm.com giving its users additional viewing options.

There has been a lot of talk in the tech industry lately about security and privacy. With the rise of home security cameras and doorbell cameras, many users are worried about protecting their devices. Today, we're going to discuss how Alarm.com does its part to keep your devices secure.


Every Alarm.com account is protected by a unique username and password. And all sensitive communication with the Alarm.com servers is protected through strict authentication protocols and secure encrypted connections. Whenever your security system or cameras are communicating with Alarm.com, the information is sent across extremely secure encrypted servers. This makes it virtually impossible for others to obtain your sensitive information through malicious methods.

You may have heard talk of other security systems and video doorbells being "hacked" or maliciously accessed. These horror stories are something that will likely always be a factor in the highly advanced technology-based society we live in. As a user, it is important to stay on your toes and always be careful. But one thing you can rest assured about is that Alarm Grid and Alarm.com are on your side. We do everything we can to make sure that your information is protected and that your privacy is always maintained.

But you need to do your part as an end user as well. You must protect your Alarm.com account and stop others from gaining access. This is done by establishing a strong password for your account that includes a combination of numbers, symbols, and both upper and lowercase letters. A long password is always advised, and you should not share passwords across multiple websites or services. Additionally, you may want to change your password regularly for added security.

Alarm.com also offers two-factor authentication as another way to keep your account secure. If enabled on your account, you will get a text message with a secret code whenever you go to login to your account. You will need to provide this secret code in order to access your account. Although this takes extra time, it does go a long way towards securing your account. You can enable two-factor authentication for your Alarm.com account by logging into your Alarm.com account and accessing the Settings Menu. Then choose Login Information > Two Factor Authentication > choose Enabled. You will then need to provide your cellular info to receive a confirmation code.

You should also make sure to have your Alarm.com account monitored for any unexpected activity. By enabling this feature, Alarm.com will analyze the data of your system to learn your typical activity patterns. If any activity occurs outside of these normal patterns, then Alarm.com will send a text and/or email alert so that you are notified. This can be very useful if there is system activity that you do not recognize. Again, this feature will need to be enabled on your Alarm.com account for it to work. Please note that it takes 30 days of activity with Alarm.com to establish activity patterns. Alarm Grid provides this service at no additional charge for all customers with Alarm.com monitoring service. Please be aware that other monitoring companies may charge extra for this feature.
